Yes, I Grew Tired - Mountains Like Wax
Yes, I Grew Tired – Mountains Like Wax
I’m alive
In a destitute, unsanitary life
Get it right
The same I’ve asked of you a thousand times
Cause my heart feels different
Than I expected our love to be like
Get it right, get it right

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Yes, I Grew Tired,” the latest single from Mountains Like Wax’s upcoming debut album, Before There Was Plenty (out February 22, 2022).

Formed by Mitchell Taylor and Sam Katz in 2015, Mountains Like Wax have spent the past six years carving out their own space in Music City’s indie rock world: One that welcomes introspection, personal growth, and self-reflection. “Mountains Like Wax invite us to pause, to make room for really listening rather than just hearing,” Atwood Magazine‘s Lindsay Call wrote in a 2017 premiere.

Inspired by (and likened to) everyone from The Killers to Radiohead and Oasis over the years, Mountains Like Wax have come into their own on their debut album with a signature warmth and color that allows them to experiment in their “genre,” while still maintaining a sense of cohesion. It’s that intangible yet ever-present substance that binds together recent singles like “Boxing Your Ears” and “Are You Changing?” with “Yes, I Grew Tired” and the rest of Before There Was Plenty‘s track list.

Change your mind
You’re not awake in love or in life
Shield your eyes
Your tattooed arms won’t hold me in this light
Cause our lives keep changing
And my heart is more different than I’d like
Get it right, get it right
Get it right
(Do you want to feel alive)
(I want to know what’s on your mind) Get it right

The band’s latest single offers a particularly evocative upheaval from within, raging in the chorus with smoldering volcanic energy. “Get it right,” Mitchell Taylor repeats, an increasingly active array of accompanying guitars and percussion making for a thick, weighted background.

“I started to write this track solely from the perspective of an individual I imagined journaling while in a relationship with the writer,” Taylor explains. “‘Yes, I Grew Tired’ recognizes the moment and phenomenon that we all meet far too often: Complacency.”

(Do you want to feel alive)
(I want to know what’s on your mind) Get it right
(Do you want to feel alive)
(I want to know what’s on your mind) Get it right

“Yes, I Grew Tired” leaves its audience feeling as drained as its narrator is: Yet whereas the character in the song expresses a poignant and bittersweet place of acceptance, listeners are left on the edge of their seats, eager for another turbulent waterfall of spellbinding visceral sound. Stream Mountains Like Wax’s latest single exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for the band’s forthcoming debut album Before There Was Plenty out in February!

Maybe we’re tired,
Distracted that it wasn’t worth the fight? Get it right
Get it right, get it right
Get it right
