It’s about the freedom, and chaos, and magic of being alone with yourself. It’s about the courage and compassion of committing to seeing the messy parts of you as beautiful.
Self-love is a marathon, not a sprint: The journey is long and we all take a different route to get there.
When we do, we discover that we’ve always been worthy of love; we’ve always been perfectly imperfect, whether we’ve got our shit together or we’re in total disarray. Daisy the Great’s dazzling new single is a dreamy, inspiring alternative anthem with a message to let our light shine: A radiant, rich outpouring of passion and wonder, “Glitter” is pure sonic gold here to brighten our spirits: A beacon for our long days and nights.
It’s just dirt on the kitchen floor cold as an icebox
Fingernails tapping to the radiator hum
Yell out loud at an old bowl of cereal
I’ll clean up if anyone’ll come
Took down all the paintings hung up on the wall
My room is so much better off if I don’t get involved
I neglected my plants to prove I would
Should’ve let the sun in, would’ve done us good
Released December 3, 2021 via S-Curve Records, “Glitter” is the lead single off Daisy the Great’s forthcoming sophomore album (set for release later this year). Following 2019’s debut album I’m Not Getting Any Taller, 2020’s soft songs EP, and a slew of singles in-between, the latest offering from Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker’s Brooklyn band is a tender, folk harmony-laden indie rock overhaul. Fans of artists like Tennis and Overcoats, Cold War Kids and HAIM are all sure to fall for the pair’s compelling dual vocals, and all the instrumental magic the bake into (and around) their musical cake.
Daisy the Great ignite in a stirring chorus full of dynamic warmth; they light an inner flame while reminding us we are beautiful inside and out, right-side up or upside down.
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
“‘Glitter’ is about a night when you can’t sleep and you decide to stay up all night long,” the band tell Atwood Magazine. “It’s about the freedom, and chaos, and magic of being alone with yourself. It’s about the courage and compassion of committing to seeing the messy parts of you as beautiful. The music video for ‘Glitter’ was directed and edited by the two of us (Kelley and Mina), and it’s about a sleepless night in our messy house as objects start to morph into our the Daisy the Great band members – and by morning, we form our band.”
I’m just rotten to thе core such a bore such a wannabe
Drеssing for the thrill like a pill it’s an armor guess I’m not a threat
Guess I’m not a threat
Night time lunatic the milk is turning sour
But I’d rather go dancing
With the woman in the mirror
There’s a ringing in my ears
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
Dust off my piano keys and I play a lullaby
Put myself to sleep in the morning light
Dust off my piano keys (I paint my face with glitter in the morning light)
And I play a lullaby (I’ve been up all night)
Put myself to sleep (I’ve been up all night)
In the morning light
Lilting melodies and driving beats color a sweet, enchanting song with an ultimately enriching and hopeful message: One of embracing ourselves and our world.
Sometimes glitter can be a coverup, but when used at its best, it’s used to enhance the beauty that’s already there. “Glitter” is about celebrating all that we are: Faults, flaws, and all. Start the year off right with this alluring song and its uplifting message of self-love and acceptance.
I’m just rotten to the core such a bore such a wannabe
(I paint my face with glitter in the)
Dressing for the thrill like a pill (Morning light)
It’s an armor guess I’m not a threat (I’ve been up all night)
Guess I’m not a threat (I’ve been up all night)
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
I paint my face with glitter in the morning light
I’ve been up all night, I’ve been up all night
