Frost Bank Arena rumbled on November 1st as the light dimmed for the K-Pop group, SEVENTEEN, to take the stage.

This was their second night in San Antonio and the energy ran high. The thirteen-member band are known for their self-made songs, high-impact performances and impeccable synchronization, which shined throughout the night.

Eleven of the group’s members: S.Coups, Joshua, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino embarked on a 5 city – 10 stop North American run, as part of their highly anticipated ‘Seventeen [Right Here] World Tour.’ They made sure to fill the space for two absent members, Jeonghan, who is currently in his mandatory South Korean military service, and Jun, who is filming a new drama in his home country of China. Every stop on their tour sold out during presale as their fans, also called Carats, have been awaiting their return since their last North American tour in the summer of 2022.

Even prior to the show, fans lined up from 6 o’clock in the morning for a chance to buy their exclusive tour merch before they sold out. Many fans were dressed in costumes as these shows coincided with Halloween and many wore outfits as members from different eras, music videos, memes, and fandom inside jokes. With a capacity of 19,000 seats, Frost Bank Arena was filled to the brim and lit up with their band assigned lightstick, named the Caratbong.

The three-hour performance was full of theatrics, coordinated dances, and fan interactions. The group opened their stage with their fan favorite, 2019 title track ‘Fear.’ As the members introduced themselves one by one, Hoshi held up his famous tiger claw hands and every concertgoer followed suit as part of one of their many bands and fan lore. The crowd chanted songs word for word in English and Korean as they lit up the stage with intricate sets, costumes and hit-packed setlists.

Mid-show the group broke off into their three units, to perform unit-based songs. Starting with their Hip-Hop unit, S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu and Vernon performed their rap-based songs, ‘Water’ and Monster. The crowd screamed along with Vernon as he rapped his lyrics from Monster “it’s a trick or treat tour” which hit a little harder on Halloweekend. The performance unit, Hoshi, The8 and Dino, followed up with their dance heavy songs, ‘Rain’ and ‘Lilili Yabbay.’ The intricate choreography matched with the flowy tracks. Closing out the unit performances were the vocal unit, consisting of Woozi, Joshua, DK, and Seungkwan. They performed their ballad type tracks, ‘Candy’ and ‘Cheers to Youth’ showing off the group’s uncanny vocal talent.

The show progressed with a slew of their upbeat songs, including the English version of their latest title track produced by DJ Khaled, ‘LOVE, MONEY, FAME.’ As the night came to a close, the big screens set up “CARAT TIME,” which put up karaoke versions of beloved songs that weren’t on the setlist. The boys then came back out for their encore and between their last two songs, picked fans out of the crowd to dance to songs of their choice.

Their last song of the night was the very popular track ‘AJU NICE’ (English title: VERY NICE). Instead of ending the song, Seungkwan ran into the crowd with his mic challenging Carats to sing his high note from the track. Known for having “never-ending aju nices” at their shows, the LED screens closed as they waved goodbye only for it to open back up as they did the chorus of the song one last time.

There was an electric feeling through the entire concert and an overwhelming sense of community and love in the room.

SEVENTEEN arguably has one of the best discographies in K-Pop, and their performances always reflect that.

The members of the group genuinely look like they were having the time of their lives for 90 straight minutes of non-stop performance and showcased themselves as being born to be on stage. SEVENTEEN [RIGHT HERE] World Tour has only four more stops in North America and will continue to Asia in February. The North American leg will end on November 10th at BMO Stadium in LA. This show is not one to miss and has put SEVENTEEN on the map as one of the best running tours this fall.
