Blending the smoky soul of Macy Gray with the elegance of Norah Jones, Becca Hannah’s seductive single “Caramel” pours into the ears like the smooth drizzle of its namesake.

Her bright, refreshing piece spins a playful tale of fiery passion and irresistible longing, all sparked by her 27th birthday cake. Her opening line, “my sweater smells like caramel, from the cake last night,” evokes a vivid image in the mind; listeners can almost smell the delectable sauce. “I might have overdone it, but I tried so hard to savor every bite.” Those lyrics showcase just how indulgent lust can be.

From the very first lyric and vocal note, the track draws us in with its allure, and the instrumentation is truly just as tantalizing. The song comes alive with help from Austin Drake’s vibrant trumpet solo, George Pereli’s whimsical horn arrangements, flavorful piano from Pàppa D, and Tristan Jantz’s silky guitar licks.

Becca Hannah’s distinct voice is steeped in classic charm and shaped by diverse influences. Her dynamic mix of RnB, jazz, and soul is as enchanting as it is inviting. While inspired by icons such as Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae, she effortlessly crafts a style that is uniquely her own. A Boston native, Hannah has always held her hometown close to her heart. Almost two years ago, though, she took a fearless leap and moved to Los Angeles, dedicating herself completely to singing and songwriting. Her previous songs including a captivating cover of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon” and the luminous rasp of “I Wanna Know,” are deeply astounding. This latest single is equally as magnetic.

“We approached the [‘Caramel’] writing process in a silly, playful, somewhat ridiculous manner,” Hannah tells Atwood Magazine. “This was kind of a nice break from my emotionally intense, confessional songs I’ve written in the past… What started off as a joke of a line about cake turned into a whole story about longing, fantasy, and lusting over a crush.”
