Winding up the road through Laurel Canyon, music seems to rise and linger – echoing the soundscapes that have shaped indie-pop artist BEL’s influences.
Isabel Whelan is light as a feather as she shares music that stirs emotion and breathes into the open air, embodying a freefall into feeling – a risk worth taking, as she leaves an imprint with every harmonious note she composes.

I made a list of all the things
I wanna do when I find you
Jump out a plane
And feel the wind in my hair
And my parachute
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
To find it, to find it
BEL’s story began in her hometown of Clovis, California. Now based in Los Angeles, the singer/songwriter recently shared her debut album Holy Grail, produced by Jason Vance Harris and released in mid-October via Nettwerk Music Group. BEL is no newcomer to the music scene, or to Atwood’s pages; she first revealed her talent in 2020 with “Silver Line,” a song that glimmers with hope and invites listeners to tune inward, embracing her unwavering frequency as she continues to create, heal, and contribute her art to the world. Five years, three stunning EPs, and countless concerts later, her debut album offers an intimate, exhilarating portrait of an artistic vision fully realized – a mission accomplished, a dream fulfilled.
The poetry of BEL’s stanzas elevates the landscape around her; her work is lighthearted and speaks to the inner soul through her lyrics. She recalls her growth and passion: “I knew I loved music and loved singing, but I had no idea how to pursue it… The biggest influence I have was my mom showing me all of her favorite artists from when she was growing up – Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks. We would always sing and harmonize to their songs together in the car… Music really opened my world.” BEL channels that same spirit in the closing track of her debut album, “Parachute.”
You wanna see my light
I turn it on
And I’m turned on by you
And when the party’s over
We can dance
around the living room
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
To find it, to find it
The song opens with electronic drum pads and harmonious coos that steady the rush of feeling, as the atmosphere hums softly, inviting a new perspective. Successive bursts of distortion awaken the listener, while layered electric guitars guide the sonic story toward a crescendo of energy and inspiration.
It’s hard to see it
From outside my perspective
It’s hard to keep it
Feeling optimistic
It’s hard to see it
From outside my perspective
It’s hard to keep it
Feeling optimistic
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
I know what I’m looking for
I just gotta look some more
To find it

BEL shines a light into her world as she inspires optimism and hope.
Expansive, exhilarating, and utterly inspiring, “Parachute” embodies freedom through an unwavering feeling. There’s an undeniable, intangible charm in BEL’s lyrics as she steps closer to the risks and rewards of taking action. Her song invites grace through the decision to believe in something not yet visible, while acknowledging the opportunities that lie ahead as she continues to grow in her own musical exploration.
“Parachute” soars with purpose, transforming vulnerability into strength. It’s the sound of BEL taking flight: Fearless, full-hearted, and ready for whatever comes next.
