Tiger March’s “Hold Something” is a sweet invitation for romance and intimacy – for diving a little deeper.

Love is a shot in the dark – a you’ll-never-know-unless-you-try leap of faith feeling. At some point, someone has to put themselves out there – someone has to make the first step, and Tiger March’s new single is that first step. Bursting with shimmering warmth and glitzy synthpop, “Hold Something” is a sweet invitation for romance and intimacy – for diving a little deeper, and getting a little more.

wet, wet, wet sand
waves crashing onto land
moon, moon stays high
in the sky tonight
just you and i
just you and i
do you wanna?
do you wanna?

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Hold Something,” the lead single and title track from Tiger March’s forthcoming debut album, Hold Something (independently out March 23, 2018). The married duo of Los Angeles’ Annie and Matthew Gleason, Tiger March formed in late 2014 through a Craigslist posting: Both were looking to work with like-minded musicians, and began a long-distance collaboration that turned into a friendship, which turned into love.

But first came “Hold Something,” a song about going for it – about late night confessions and last-ditch efforts for a fairytale beginning.

let me count the waves
cuz i adore you
let me read into the stars
to know it’s true
do you wanna hold something
do you wanna hold something
do you wanna hold something
that i have
do you wanna?

“‘Hold Something’ was inspired by a guy who told Annie [Gleason (vocals)] he didn’t like her music during a very romantic date that ended with a long walk on a beach under a bright moon,” Tiger March tell Atwood Magazine. “When Annie told Matthew [Gleason (producer/songwriter)] about the date, Matthew wagered the relationship would last two months tops. Hopeful of yielding better results, Annie went on to a write a song about the experience. The song, as the only remains of that one month-long relationship, has served as the catalyst for many jokes at Annie’s expense. Matthew loves to recount the story.”

so we named the ones who came before
and then we talked some more
you’ve never felt this way
have you ever felt this way
no i’ve never felt this way before
do you wanna hold something
do you wanna hold something
do you wanna hold something
that i have
do you wanna?

It doesn’t matter that “Hold Something” ended up being about a failed relationship; it’s not about winning or losing. It’s about trying – putting yourself out there and being as open and honest as you can possibly be. It’s about being vulnerable and exposing yourself to complex, real emotions. “In an album that charts love’s beginnings, ends, and in-betweens, “Hold Something” showcases the hopeful drive that sends us in search, even if at times misguided, for that someone or something to hold onto,” Tiger March explain. “‘Hold Something’ is the album’s refrain, its reminder, and its imperative. Love, the search for it, the beginning, middle, and end of it, can be as shiny and shimmery as it can be dark and devastating, but you’re going to do it anyway because you have to and you should.”

We can’t say it any better ourselves: “Hold Something” may not hold an answer, but at least it asks a question. Hold Something is out everywhere 3/23/2018; for now, stream Tiger March’s dreamy title track exclusively on Atwood Magazine!
