No matter how we make a living, there’s a level of sacrifice in every decision, and this song is about knowing where is worthy of our devotion.

“We’re told structure equals safety,” ANT ENOCH says, “but a lot of us feel like we’re losing something vital in the process.”

That tension between comfort and collapse pulses through every second of “9INE to 5IVE” – a breathtaking, charged anthem for the modern burnout generation. It’s glitchy and gorgeous, cinematic and cathartic: A song that crackles with electricity while cutting deep into the human spirit. It’s ANT ENOCH at his boldest and most expansive yet, turning existential fatigue into a spellbinding act of defiance.

Released September 2025 and premiered live at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival, “9INE to 5IVE” signals the start of a new era for the Berlin-based Australian artist. Written and recorded in London with producer Chris Hyson (Jordan Rakei, Frida Touray) and mixed by TJ Allen (Portishead, Bat for Lashes), the track follows last year’s debut EP Big Talk Big Party (named one of Atwood’s Best EPs of 2024), and captures the raw electricity of a live band within a lush electronic frame. Surging synths, pounding drums, and hypnotic bass lines converge beneath ENOCH’s soul-stirring vocals, blurring the line between surrender and rebellion.

“It’s about questioning the norms in our lives,” he explains. “We’re told structure equals safety, but a lot of us feel like we’re losing something vital in the process. It’s about taking time for ourselves and challenging the hustle culture.”

That resistance is the heartbeat of “9INE to 5IVE.” A gut-punch anthem about choosing self-worth over expectation, it reflects the push-and-pull between fear and faith, chaos and clarity. “At its core, it’s about self-worth and freedom,” he says. “Recognising the tension between what’s expected of me and what I actually want to give my life to. There’s frustration in it, but also faith and a quiet defiance.” The result is euphoric melancholy – music that dances in the dark while daring you to look inward.

Big Talk Big Party was me stepping out on my own,” ENOCH says. “It has intimacy and heart, deep-rooted in indie-electronic balladry. ‘9INE to 5IVE’ is bolder and more cinematic. A bigger, more electronic sound with the live energy I’ve been chasing for my shows.” It’s a natural evolution for an artist who describes his work as “songs that live in the space between the club and the confessional.” Few can balance euphoria and vulnerability as gracefully as he does – that rare ability to make you want to cry, dance, and exhale all at once.

As he prepares his next record – written in Berlin, recorded in London, and built for stages around the world – ANT ENOCH stands on the edge of his most ambitious chapter yet. “I hope people feel seen in the struggle and find a spark of courage to build the life they actually want,” he reflects. “To take a moment to look at the birds and listen to that simple, quiet voice that speaks a soft truth.” “9INE to 5IVE” captures that quiet voice in motion – the sound of an artist searching for something real in a world that keeps demanding more.

With “9INE to 5IVE,” ANT ENOCH steps boldly into his next chapter with both a reckoning and a release – a vision of freedom and faith set to the rhythm of reinvention, and the first breathtaking glimpse of what’s still to come. He’s turned the weight of the modern world into movement, meaning, and something utterly transcendent and all-consuming.

A CONVERSATION WITH ANT ENOCH

9INE to 5IVE - ANT ENOCH

Atwood Magazine: For those who are just discovering you today through this write-up, what do you want them to know about you and your music?

ANT ENOCH: I make songs that live in the space between the club and the confessional. Big, emotional vocals over drum machines, synths and very loud drums. Songs you can move to but also feel in your chest. It’s about connection, release and honesty.

What’s the story behind your song “9INE to 5IVE”?

ANT ENOCH: This song is about questioning the norms in our lives. We’re told structure equals safety, but a lot of us feel like we’re losing something vital in the process. It’s about taking time for ourselves and challenging the hustle culture. No matter how we make a living, there’s a level of sacrifice in every decision, and this song is about knowing where is worthy of our devotion.

You’ve said this song is the beginning of your most ambitious chapter yet; how does this new track compare to last year’s Big Talk Big Party EP for you?

ANT ENOCH: That EP was me stepping out on my own. It has intimacy and heart, deep-rooted in indie-electronic balladry. “9INE to 5IVE” is bolder and more cinematic. A bigger, more electronic sound with the live energy I’ve been chasing for my shows. So much of my love for music has come from performing live & after performing these songs for the first time at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, I couldn’t be more excited for what is to come.

What’s this song about, for you?

ANT ENOCH: At its core, it’s about self-worth and freedom. Recognising the tension between what’s expected of me and what I actually want to give my life to. There’s frustration in it, but also faith and a quiet defiance.

How does this track fit into the overall narrative of ANT ENOCH, the artist?

ANT ENOCH: Everything I’ve done so far has been building a world. Building a world out of an old mattress factory in Bankstown, South West Sydney. This song opens the door to the next chapter. Now living in Berlin and writing from the iconic Alt Münze building in the heart of the city. More movement, more risk, more of my heart on display. With the ambition to take this project onto stages around the world.

Your artist bio says you “write anthems for crying on the dance floor.” Why that visual?

ANT ENOCH: Because that’s where I live emotionally. I love the catharsis of dancing but I also love songs that make you tear up. My favourite artists blend both euphoria and vulnerability in the same moment. That’s what I want to give people. All my writing starts in Melancholia and this sentence describes how I deal with it on a personal level. I dance!

Are you a big crier, a big dancer?

ANT ENOCH: I’d say I’m a bigger dancer than crier. There’s such permission in moving your body. Having music move through you in a way that causes you to let go. Even on a small level, every hip sway to head nod feels like a form of rebellion to me. Surpassing the insecurities and giving your body a moment to feel something without thinking about it. Music is great for that. I grew up around the ocean in Australia, so movement and release are part of who I am.

What do you hope listeners take away from “9INE to 5IVE,” and what have you taken away from creating it?

ANT ENOCH: I hope people feel seen in the struggle and find a spark of courage to build the life they actually want. To take a moment to look at the birds and listen to that simple, quiet voice that speaks a soft truth. I’ve taken so much away from this song coming into the world. But you’ll have to come to a show to find out!
