These days, I’m trying not to worry about how things change – eat with, sleep with, die with, fight with…

Intimate and introspective, feverish and raw, Alaska Reid’s new single is an exhilarating two minute upheaval: A softly searing window into a warm world of heartfelt connection, chaotic movement, and comfortable stasis. Anxiety and overdrive come to life in “Always,” a passionate, heart-on-sleeve fuzz-fueled frenzy that invites us to step back, take a breath, and appreciate the people who matter most in our lives.

Always – Alaska Reid
Trailers, silos
Blurring past the window
I’m stuck in my head picking all the big scabs apart
Cotton candy colored sky, don’t think I’m boring
It’s springtime just another creature to come and die
Now I’ll forgive, never cared that much when I was a kid
Come on stop feeling like

Released October 14, 2021, “Always” is a fleeting, fiery, and immersive experience. Alaska Reid’s first single of 2021 arrives nearly a year after the Park County, Montana-bred singer/songwriter released her debut album Big Bunny, praised upon its release as “a stunningly visceral and beautifully intimate reckoning.” Working once again with producer A. G. Cook, Reid brings her signature vulnerability and charisma to “Always” while delving into the harrowing depths of familiar insecurities: A constantly churning, overthinking mind and worried heart take center stage in Reid’s lyrics as she whips up a sonic storm, calling to mind a number of influences from alternative music’s past while trailblazing her own path.

She sings a radiant chorus, her voice equal parts gentle and tender, rugged and roaring as emotions spill forth with vivid intensity:

Always, yeah I get anxious that you might not stay
Eat with, sleep with, die with fight with
These days, I’m trying not to worry about how things change
Eat with, sleep with, die with, fight with

“The song is a short story,” Reid tells Atwood Magazine. “Sonically the goal is to blend elements from everything I love; the lyricism and phrasing of country music, the 90s guitar fuzz I love (think Dino Jr.) and the ever-expanding sound world of A. G.”

Streams and swelling lakes
Let the icy water wash away this endless ego game
True grit works well on you but I know if I was weaker
your friends would start to like me too,
yeah they’d start to like me too

Now I’ll forgive, never cared that much when I was a kid
Come on stop feeling like

While her musical style can be likened to that of contemporaries Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Snail Mail (all of whom exist within those blurry lines between so-called “indie rock” and “indie folk”), Alaska Reid has emerged over the past year with her own definitive sound, style, and sonic texture – and while this may, in part, be thanks to her consistent work with producer A. G. Cook, in truth it’s a strong testament to Reid’s unbridled passion, ethic, and dedication to her craft. “Always” is but the latest in an incredible body of work that delves unapologetically deep into the soul, exposing us for who we are while exploring the multi-faceted, thrilling and chilling nature of our shared human experience.

Always, yeah I get anxious that you might not stay
Eat with, sleep with, die with, fight with
These days, I’m trying not to worry about how things change
Eat with, sleep with, die with, fight with
