Recent studies on lifespan suggest a strong correlation between social life and longevity – so when people say keep your friends close, that really is good life advise!

And how better to commemorate our friends than through a song that actually gets at the heart of what friendship is all about? Folamour and Tim Ayre’s “Friends” is an achingly intimate, tender, grooving and brooding indie pop song about the importance of human connection.

Wake up, it’s just a dream
save up your energy
don’t wait, it’s make believe
I know its so obscene
how long til ecstasy
mind blown from everything
don’t let me know what you can see
I just have to believe

Released March 10 via ULTRA Records, “Friends” is a smoldering sonic fever dream not about how fun and great it is to have a thriving social life, but about how much it means to have someone in your life who will be there for you in your darkest times – when you really need them most. Folamour’s second single of the year, featuring Australian artist Tim Ayre, sees the internationally renowned French DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist shining a light “on the importance of friendship and kindness to balance the solitude of our fast city life.”

Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me?” Ayre sings over moody, radiant synths and glistening keys. “I need a friend until the end…”

It’s as simple as that: I need a friend. Yes, humans are social creatures, but friendship is so much more than being around for a good time; we don’t need more fairweather friends. We need a confidante, a companion, a patient ear and a helping hand:

Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
When I tried to be the part but I end up at the start
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
I need a friend until the end
I need a friend until the end

“My friends and loved ones are the reasons to do so many of the things I do,” Folamour – real name Bruno Boumendil – tells Atwood Magazine. “They are my fuel and my lifeline, [which is why I’m] dedicating this one to all the friends in the world. Hope you’ll feel that hymn to friendship as much as we do.”

Wake up to another day
Tired eyes, push the pain away
When the waves could collapse to make it alright
When it’s hard to believe that I can be free
how long til ecstasy
mind blown from everything
don’t let me know what you can see
I just have to believe

“Friends” takes friendship to the next level, musically speaking.

It’s a resounding, cathartic, and intoxicatingly catchy reminder of the true importance of our most intimate and meaningful relationships. The third single from Folamour’s forthcoming album Manifesto (out May 26), “Friends” was recently succeeded by the single “Voyage,” featuring Malian duo Amadou & Mariam.

While all of Folamour’s songs have a way of tapping a nerve deep down inside, “Friends” remains a special highlight as the artist delves deeper into the alternative and pop music spaces.

Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
When I tried to be the part but I end up at the start
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
When I tried to be the part but I end up at the start
Can’t somebody, won’t somebody help me
I need a friend until the end
I need a friend until the end
