California indie rock band Greer are sure to leave fans astounded with the release of “Had Enough.”
After four long years, the four-piece of vocalist Josiah Ziegler, guitarist Corbin Jacques, drummer Lucas Ovalle, and bassist Seth Thomson is back and sounding better than ever.
After Greer’s 2021 EP Happy People, they continued to fine-tune their sound behind closed doors. While the wait was lengthy, it was undoubtedly worth it: Released January 16th via Epitaph Records, “Had Enough” amplifies the artistic growth of the band through implementation of rock influences (the group cite The Eagles’ song “Chug All Night” as a primary influence), including fiery overdriven guitars and thunderous, hard-hitting drumming. Produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Kurt Vile, Beck), the catchy, charged anthem is groovy, upbeat, and laced with memorable guitar riffs.

I don’t want another thing to do
Something new
Making the world on his hands
There’s nobody standing next to you
Love to be
Taking the words from his hands
I think I’m done
This time I’ve had enough
Everybody’s got one
It just feels so overdone
Developing a new style also fostered a special bond between the Orange County-based foursome.
“Fun fact about this song – after figuring out the bridge, we all simultaneously exclaimed, ‘PIZZA TIME!’” the band tells Atwood Magazine.
“Although this coincidence is not yet explained to us, it’s something we oftentimes remember, forever symbolized as a signifying moment representing our newfound unity as a band.”
I could settle down and rearrange
Your caustic feign
Melting the words from your hands
I can see them hanging over me
Lines they bleed
But never enough to expand
It makes me sad,
when something I did
Doesn’t turn out right,
this pain in my neck, on the floor
I cry when something I said,
a nail to the head
And well, what kills my friends,
will only kill
This captivating pop hit in the making illustrates the perspective of pets and the hardships faced upon meeting their owner for the first time.
Looking through the lens of a pet is overlooked, which establishes “Had Enough” as astounding, offering an altered perspective for listeners.

When asking Greer about the origin of the single, they opened up about being tangled in sadness and the effect that can have on a person.
“‘Had Enough,’ formerly known as ‘Charburger,’ was inspired by feelings of sadness,” they share.
“Sometimes when we get sad, the feelings hurt so bad we don’t know where to put them. Sometimes we crack jokes about finding a green magic jar able to withstand any negative feelings or emotions we may have, gifting us the ability to jump as high as a skyscraper for instance.”
“Unfortunately, many don’t understand this fallacy, and some dispute it. But we dream on, hopeful of a world not yet known to us, hands in pockets, feet touching the soil, eyes set on the horizon. This song expands on the idea of a green magic jar, and is an indicator of the music to come.”

The single comes to a close, yet so many more questions arise. What is next for Greer and their evolution as a group? Only time will tell, but this record gives listeners a glimpse into what’s to come. Unlike any past project, “Had Enough” sees Greer redefining their image, and writing themselves a new narrative in the process.
“We’re nervous for old fans to hear how our sound has changed sonically,” the group add, “but that nervousness quickly overlaps with the excitement we feel when listening to the songs. Despite the amount of time that has transpired since our last release, we as a band feel solid as a rock. We were kids since our last release.”
“As SpongeBob would say, ‘Now that we’re men,’ we feel much more prepared to take on the beast hidden within us.”
