“Your New Favorite Song” – Wallows

Wallows are kicking off 2025 with a bang.

Their new single, “Your New Favorite Song,” released via Atlantic Records, is an instant earworm — a lush, horn-filled indie-rock gem that has all the makings of, well, your new favorite song.

The Los Angeles trio’s talent for crafting infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics is on full display, and the track delivers a refreshing yet familiar dose of their signature sound. Following the success of their third studio album “Model” this single sets the stage for another stellar year.

Your New Favorite Song – Wallows
Turn it up, this is my favorite song
Even better if you sing along
We can think on the years that go by
Or we could count all the tears that we’ve cried
But I, I don’t wanna know
So I blocked it out with the song and it went like
Do you like not having me at home?
Can you even get through this alone?
Well, I, I don’t wanna know
No, I, I don’t wanna know

From the opening notes, “Your New Favorite Song” draws listeners into a dreamscape of delicate acoustic guitar and Dylan Minnette’s tender, introspective vocals. “Turn it up, this is my favorite song, even better if you sing along,” he sings, and honestly, he might just be right. The arrangement is both intricate and expansive, with swooning strings adding cinematic flair and horns injecting bursts of energy.

The chorus, with its chantable “No, I, I don’t wanna know,” is destined to be a live-show highlight, a rallying cry for fans who’ve followed the band from their early days to this triumphant moment.

Think I wrote you your new favorite song
Would you pan it, or would you sing along?
It’s more than likely that I’ll never know
But I’ll still look out for you at the show

Wallows have come a long way since their 2019 debut album, Nothing Happens.

That record’s lo-fi charm and coming-of-age narratives captured the spirit of youthful uncertainty, while 2022’s Tell Me That It’s Over leaned into a more polished sound, exploring heartbreak and growth with bold production. With Model, released in 2024, the band found their sweet spot, blending the raw emotionality of their debut with the sonic adventurousness of their sophomore effort.

Produced by GRAMMY® Award winner John Congleton, Model was met with critical acclaim. DORK described it as “a stunning, natural evolution” and a “no-skips record,” while CLASH praised the band’s synergy, noting how growing up together has allowed them to harness each other’s strengths. From the reflective “Your Apartment” to the anthemic “Calling After Me,” the album showcases Wallows’ versatility and knack for storytelling.

2024 was a landmark year for Wallows, thanks in large part to their Model Tour, which took them across the globe and solidified their status as one of alternative rock’s premier acts. The tour featured stops at iconic venues like Madison Square Garden, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and Alexandra Palace, each night drawing thousands of devoted fans eager to hear new favorites and timeless classics alike.

From the soaring “Remember When” off “Nothing Happens” to the introspective “I Don’t Want to Talk” from “Tell Me That It’s Over,” the setlists offered a little something for everyone. The shows also highlighted Wallows’ ability to seamlessly translate their studio sound to a live setting, with Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston trading instruments and vocals with effortless chemistry.

Just weeks into the new year, Wallows are already making waves. Their debut performance on Triple J’s “Like A Version” featured a stunning rendition of “Your New Favorite Song” and a cover of The Marías’ “No One Noticed.” These stripped-down versions highlight the band’s versatility and ability to convey raw emotion, even when the production is pared back.

Fans are also buzzing about the newly announced Model & More Tour, which kicks off in February with special guest Deb Never. This leg includes dates in Omaha, Minneapolis, and beyond, with Porches joining the lineup for the May and June shows. From headlining Bonnaroo to opening for My Chemical Romance in Los Angeles, Wallows’ 2025 calendar is stacked with high-profile gigs that promise to keep their momentum going strong.

What makes “Your New Favorite Song” so compelling is its ability to feel intimate and grand at the same time.

The production, while lush, never overshadows the song’s emotional core. Minnette’s voice is both fragile and resolute, capturing the bittersweet tension of longing and letting go. Meanwhile, the instrumentation — from the soft pluck of guitar strings to the bold swell of horns — creates a dynamic backdrop that ebbs and flows, mirroring the song’s emotional highs and lows.

When you’re waking up, who you gonna see?
Right side of the bed, looking back at me
Thought I heard a voice, thought I saw a face
It was but a noisе gone without a trace
Will I hear it again?
Will I see it again?
Will I feel it again?

Thematically, the track touches on vulnerability and self-doubt, but it also carries a sense of quiet confidence. By the time the final chorus hits, there’s a cathartic release, as if Wallows are reminding us that music has the power to heal, connect, and uplift. It’s this balance of introspection and universality that has always been their strength, and “Your New Favorite Song” is no exception.

As Wallows continue to evolve, their ability to push boundaries while staying true to their roots remains impressive.

They’ve mastered the art of creating music that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable, a trait that has earned them a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim. With “Model” solidifying their place in the indie-rock pantheon and “Your New Favorite Song” pointing to even greater heights, 2025 is shaping up to be another banner year for this unstoppable trio.

So, is “Your New Favorite Song” truly your new favorite song? Give it a listen and decide for yourself. One thing’s for sure: Wallows are making it hard to say no.
