Home isn’t just a place; it’s a feeling – one rooted in comfort, security, and authenticity.
Whether it’s a person, a location, or a fleeting moment in time, Mac DeMarco explores the meaning of home in his latest single, “Home,” which he describes as “a song I wrote at my home in Los Angeles about what home means to me.”
These days I’d much rather be on my own
No more walking those streets
That I once called my home
Because down every lane there are
Faces and names
That have memories attached
That I’d sooner let go
Sooner than I’d go home again

Peace is and personal subjective – it can be found in the littlest of things, even silence. In “Home,” DeMarco. What once felt like home can fade away and change addresses. But just because a person’s “home” has changed, doesn’t mean they are without one. People leave, places change, but the feeling of home is eternal – a blanket that keeps you warm and fuzzy no matter the weather, it’s safe and dependable. Temporary adventures are steppingstones, ones to be displayed on the front lawn in awe. Sometimes all they’re good for is to look at and admire, understanding where they fit in. When the past looks a person in the face, it’s important to recognize that it’s all just a distant memory of the individual they used to be. DeMarco uncovers harmony as he steps away from his past, living on his own away from what he once called home. It begs the question, what does home look like to you?
I never called,
let our friendship dissolve
Now my welcome’s worn out,
and your hate for me’s grown
To the point, when I try
to amend all the lies
All those memories return,
that I’d sooner let go
Sooner than I’d go home again
DeMarco’s new single arrives ahead of his forthcoming album Guitar, due out August 22nd via his own Mac’s Record Label. The 12-track LP was written and recorded entirely by DeMarco in November 2024, with mastering by David Ives. Whether it was mixing the record or even shooting music videos with tripods, DeMarco found himself continuing to innovate on his own. Supporters get a glimpse of what’s to come in the music video for his latest single, “Home,” which consists of DeMarco canoeing, panning to different kinds of wildlife throughout the journey.
“I think Guitar is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper,” DeMarco shares. “I’m happy to share this music, and look forward to playing these songs many places as I’m able.”

“Home” isn’t just a reflection; it’s a beautiful reckoning.
With gentle strumming and heartfelt lyrics, Mac DeMarco peels back the layers of nostalgia, comfort, and discomfort that define our ever-changing sense of belonging. He doesn’t shy away from the bittersweet truth that sometimes, home is best left behind. In stepping away, he finds peace – not in the past, but in the present moment, in solitude, and in starting anew.
As he prepares to release Guitar and embark on an extensive international tour, DeMarco leads with vulnerability and self-assurance. “Home” captures the weight of memory and the lightness of letting go – a tender meditation on what we carry, and what we choose to leave behind.
