I dropped way too many unnecessary tears on my pillow…

Folks may toy with love like it’s a game, but if someone’s not playing by your rules, you don’t have to play with them. Singer/songwriter Asha Maclean refuses to let anyone take advantage of her – or her heart – in her stirring debut single: Intimately honest and achingly vulnerable, “Serial F Boy” is an empowering, smoldering outpouring from a tender bleeding soul.

I thought that you were the one
thought that we were in love
Damn boy I was wrong
Really didn’t want to give up
But you’re inconsistent
Your heart’s beating different, I…

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering the acoustic video for “Serial F Boy,” Asha Maclean’s debut single (originally released October 15, 2021 via 444 Entertainment). A 17-year-old singer/songwriter from New York City, Maclean makes glistening and soulful R&B-laced pop. Her first two releases (she released the tear-streaked “Rain” in early December) build worlds of palpable feeling around her stunning vocals and gentle guitar work.

Maclean’s passion is especially strong in her stripped-down acoustic performance, which enables the full range of her voice to shine bright and true as, rather than wallow in a fractured relationship, she puts her pieces back together to become stronger than before.

I dropped way too many
Unnecessary tears on my pillow
Crying over you, you wasted my time
And I can’t get it back eight months,
e
ight days to be exact
Stepping on my heart
Like I don’t feel no pain
You’re a Serial F- Boy
You’ll hurt me again

“‘Serial F Boy’ is a story about my experiences in relationships and how raw they have been,” Asha Maclean tells Atwood Magazine. “I wanted to bring to life what it feels like to be in a relationship at 17 and what it takes to stand up for what I believe and how I want to be loved.”

You got it, wouldn’t want to
Hold you from wylin’
I know you be getting excited when girls
Want to touch on your body
You say you got caught in the moment
Now you really got to own it
Sick and tired of all the lies
Look in my eyes and see that I…
I thought I was your number one
What about two, is that the one?
You call your boo baby, three
is that your late night thing?
Four, is that your main or your side
Five, tell me where I fall in line, I….

Asha Maclean’s story is only just beginning, and it’s started in radiant fashion with a song full of inner strength, turbulence, and raw fervor. The teenager owns her story and refuses to let anyone – f-boy or otherwise – take advantage of her; as a result, “Serial F Boy” is empowering not only for her, but also for all who care to listen.
