We’ve all had a crossroads in our lives where we know we did something wrong. We know we hurt someone. We know we made a bad choice. Usually, it’s never ill-intended, but nevertheless, it’s bad. When we make these moves and when the inevitable hurt settles in we tend to beat ourselves up. We tend to tell ourselves it was all our fault. Luckie is telling u that even when you’re in the wrong, it is alright to be sad with new single “Sad People, Bad People.”
Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Sad People, Bad People,” the third single from Tottenham newcomer Luckie following the artist’s releases “These Days” and debut “I Found God, She Was Out of Her Mind” earlier this year. The artist puts it best in saying his new song is about “trying to reconcile with your right to feel sad, even though you’re a complete piece of shit.”
A sharp fade in provides a powerful beginning for “Sad People, Bad People.” Immediately violin strings swell with a swinging bass providing the backdrop for the sadness. Luckie’s soft and delicate voice soothes in:
Oh night, don’t go
Stay a little
The light won’t show
A thing I want to see
And I don’t know
If this sounds weird
But every morning seems
To never quite feel right to me
And although I feel alone in my dreams
All I see is…
The music swells even more as the hook builds to the chorus,
Sad people
Even bad people can be
Sad people sometimes
All I hear is
Sad People
Going mad, ain’t it lonely
Just trying to get by
As he continues to sing you feel the believability in his voice, the word “muddy” comes out of his mouth and you actually begin to feel the thickness and depth of what he is singing about. Lustful harmonies interject as he builds to the final hook, which is an explosion of emotion, imploring listeners to feel exactly what they need to feel; regardless of their situation,
And funny as it seems
The only thing that people see
I wonder if you know what I mean
‘Cause all I see is…
The bluesy anthem for the sad and the broken closes out as just that: Beautifully sad and perfectly broken. Luckie’s powerfully raw vocals and unabashed truth are pure and evident with this track. We cannot wait to hear more from him.
Sad people
Even bad people can be
Sad people sometimes
All I hear is
Sad People
Going mad, ain’t it lonely
Just trying to get by
