All too often, we take the love in our lives for granted. We forget how special it is to have someone to love, and someone who loves us in return; to have someone who understands us inside and out, who’s there for us through thick and thin, who’s there in the good times and there through the bad ones. “Ya show me heart when I’m lonely, and ya show me love when I’m down.” The Good Love channel their band name in their captivating new song “Sunshine Sometime,” a buoyant and catchy embrace of unbridled love and intimate connection.
My lady lover won’t you come over sometime,
there’s a bitterness it takes for me to get to you
My lady sunshine why don’t you make me feel fine
There’s a bitterness it takes for me to get to you.
Cause I’ve been so in love,
I can’t dream of anybody else
won’t you come on over,
’cause I can’t be here when I’m not myself
Ya show me heart, when I’m lonely
Ya show me love, when I’m down
Ahhhhh
Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Sunshine Sometime,” The Good Love’s second single of 2022 (out Thursday, May 5). Hailing from New South Wales and active throughout the past five years, the five-piece of LeRoy Ashford-Meehan, Joel Leggett, Samuel Sharpe, Manning Allen-Scott, and Jayden Friend have established themselves as a noteworthy beacon of sunny and connective sound. Their catchy choruses, sweet harmonies, and compelling guitars are at times reminiscent of The Beach Boys and The Beatles, and at times more reminiscent of Wilco and Spoon; either way, there’s no denying the charisma, the passion, and the charm that goes into every song The Good Love churns out.
“Sunshine Sometime” is a sweet dose of ’60s-esque wonder with a modern allure: Bright guitars and buoyant grooves bustle underneath lead singer Leroy Ashford-Meehan intimate and dreamy vocal line, itself further bolstered by his band mates’ radiant harmonies. He spills his heart in a dazzling, sublime chorus:
Cause I’ve been so in love,
I can’t dream of anybody else
won’t you come on over,
’cause I can’t be here when I’m not myself
Ya show me heart, when I’m lonely
Ya show me love, when I’m down
Ahhhhh
“’Sunshine Sometime’ is about the longing for someone who cannot be described more than a beam of sunshine,” The Good Love tell Atwood Magazine. “It was inspired by a visit to Manning’s Great Aunt Margaret in Melbourne. The song reflects on a wholesome morning with a lovely individual, telling jokes and stories and sipping tea. In this respect, we all wish to have someone like Margaret, who can shine sunshine onto others. So raise your teacup/glass/whatever and tell someone you love them.”
My lady lover when will you bring your sunshine
there’s a feelin oh my god I wanna get to you
She’s picking daisy’s, lying lazy in the sunshine
There’s a feelin oh my god I gotta get to you
Love is never something to be taken for granted, and through “Sunshine Sometime,” we are reminded not only of how special it really is, but also of how much meaning, support, and sheer value love adds to our everyday lives. The Good Love’s latest is undoubtedly one for the romantics in all of us; whether you’re in love or in the market for love, we can all fall for the passion, the heart, and the warmth of “Sunshine Sometime,” a song that shines bright with that special something: A magic, loving glow.
