There’s no easy way to conclude a relationship. Hearts are like glass: They’re as beautiful as they are fragile – a marvel to behold, but prone to shattering. No matter how you say goodbye, heartbreak is inevitable when love is at stake. Italian singer/songwriter Violetta Zironi’s breathtaking ballad “One More Goodbye” is a bittersweet cry for closure, a somber and beautiful attempt to find peace and acceptance in the end.
You open my eyes just like courtains
Let loose the flood I’ve been keeping inside
All my life I’ve been searching for something
That wouldn’t just shatter or slip from my hands
And if all of our futures are certain
Then read me the lines on my palm one more time

At age 23, Zironi has already enjoyed quite a whirlwind of attention as an independent artist: She was a finalist on X Factor Italy’s seventh season in 2013, introducing herself through acoustic music with her ukulele. She thereafter embarked on a solo career that found her expanding musically into the pop and rock genres; February 2018’s Half Moon Lane debut EP finds a number of styles dancing in harmony around Zironi’s smart, emotive lyrics and emotive voice.
Yet as great as a full band can be, sometimes nothing beats the raw vulnerability of acoustic music (here’s looking at you, James Bay). “One More Goodbye” finds Zironi returning to her stripped-down roots, and the result is utter magic: “One More Goodbye” is an absolutely irresistible affair, an intimate and poignant conversation at the precipice of breakup.
So tell me what happens next
Something I don’t expect
I don’t believe you when you said
We don’t have a choice in the way that this ends.
So take all this wasted time
Leave me with my regrets
If nothing I say can change your mind
Then all I ask for is one more goodbye
“One More Goodbye marks the start of a new chapter for me,” Violetta Zironi tells Atwood Magazine. “I want to tell about new feelings I got to experience, and this is the first page. But at the same time, I’m going back to my roots, back to acoustic in order for the message to be clear and straight forward.”
The artist continues, “One More Goodbye’s lyrics try to express the feeling we all have when something is about to end without a proper conclusion. The way something will end worries us more than the fact that it will end itself. We all need to mark periods of our lives with proper signs, otherwise we have a feeling of emptiness that disturbs us. We think that if we have a clear sign at the end of the chapter we will be able to move on faster believing that a phase of our life is just over and we’re ready to start a new one.”
All that was bright casts a shadow
Once lifted me up now’s a weight ‘round my heart
And this ocean we sailed on grows shallow
I don’t think that we were hopeless from the start
When you saw the surprise in my eyes
How could you have thought
I would feel the same way
Armed with her acoustic guitar and an emotive voice that can finally sing out to the fullest extent, Violetta Zironi is reintroducing herself mid-year as an indisputable artist-to-watch with truly limitless potential. Her vocal strength and stamina is unparalleled; she could likely release an entire a cappella album to critical acclaim, but instead she wields her stringed partner with sensitivity and grace. Soft, subtle, and bursting with warm emotion, “One More Goodbye” is the heartbreak ballad we’ve been waiting for – a moment of naked truth in which we may all unplug and let the tears flow freely.
