Bombastic, anthemic guitars churn a tapestry of bright, wild wonder as Beach Tiger’s first single of 2021 gets underway. Daring and bold, “Where Do We Go From Here?” marks the beginning of something euphoric and fresh from Taylor McCleskey’s ever-evolving solo project: It’s an exciting new dawn for an artistry we’ve been watching for five years’ time.

One eye open
Hear you knocking at the door
Say you love me
You won’t leave me wanting more
Say you want out / Say you want in
Say more lover I’m the same old lover
Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here?
I’m scared, I’m out of words
Is that alright?

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Where Do We Go From Here?,” the dynamic and uplifting sophomore single off Beach Tiger’s forthcoming album, Yenta (out May 21, 2021). His first new release since last year’s solo debut album Nostalgia HotYenta finds Charleston, South Carolina-based Taylor McCleskey continuing to define the artistry he now inhabits: A band that we were first introduced to via 2015’s “Just Woke Up” and 2016’s “Mind Make.”

McCleskey assumed the reigns of the project in 2019, and released a comprehensive “band” album, Hamburg, last April – followed promptly by his own solo debut effort, Nostalgia Hot, in June. In premiering the album, Atwood Magazine praised McCleskey for crafting a ten-track immersion of classic pop and alternative rock sounds: “Tiger’s light shines in Nostalgia Hot, filling our ears with spirited energy and endless passion as the artist brings intimate, fleeting moments to life in song… It’s impulsive, yet finessed; buoyant yet bittersweet: A mix of sounds that reflects the artist’s strong ’60s influences, but channels it through a distinctively “Beach Tiger” lens.”

McCleskey continues to refine his art throughout Yenta, whose first two singles showcase a reflective mentality channeled through upbeat, effervescent rock sounds.

September’s lead single “Peace and Love” is a deceptively turbulent ray of shining light – one that reckons with struggle and hardship, but commits to persevere at all costs. “Where Do We Go From Here?” embodies its own kind of strife and resilience, tapping into a vein of deep energy as McCleskey sings of facing turmoil head-on, even if it means we have to face our fears or inner and outer demons in the process.

I’m fairly certain
I am hearing from the past
Echoes softly
Haunted wavelengths on the glass
Another cold breath
Another fake laugh
Say more lover I’m
The same old lover

“On the surface, “Where Do We Go From Here?” tells the tale of a relationship on the rocks, but if you dig deeper, you’ll discover a few extra layers,” the artist explains. “For me, I have always chosen to live my life in a bit of a bubble – “ignorance is bliss” if you will – but this year, both globally and personally, as forced me out of my “everything’s okay” shell, and shown me that the world is unpredictable, scary, crazy, exciting, and sometimes you have to walk THROUGH the fire rather than around it.”

Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here?
I’m scared
I’m out of words
Is that alright?

Radiant guitars beam and glow, churning around McCleskey’s expressive vocals as his song rises high and gently falls around the ears, inundating listeners in a pool of vibrant, immersive music. It’s Beach Tiger at a point of emotional ecstasy, building a vivid wall of sound not unlike those of U2, Coldplay, and The Killers. Considering these references are to A-level artists and Beach Tiger is definitively independent, his ability to make such high-octane, powerful music is all the more impressive and praiseworthy.
