NYC-based pop singer/songwriter Marilyn Hucek strips it down with her beautifully courageous “Vulnerable.”

Everyone has had that moment of reconnection with someone they used to love. Usually in these moments, we keep a wall up to ensure the façade that we’re doing fine without them is alive and well. The hardest thing to do is be honest; to let the wall down and expose true feelings. It takes courage, but that courage can pay off. NYC pop singer/songwriter Marilyn Hucek strips it down with her beautifully courageous single, “Vulnerable.”
As Hucek puts it, “‘Vulnerable’ is a very special song to me because it identifies a very vulnerable event in my life with an ex-boyfriend with whom I had a long-complicated past. The moment was emotionally monumental, and I couldn’t help but write a song about my feelings, which I’m sure many can relate to. In general, people go through their day to day lives trying to be strong and have thick skin, but there’s something about love that always finds a way to make us weak in the knees. I hope to inspire people to open up more and not always wait for a perfect moment in order to say something to the person they care about. I also hope to encourage people to wear their heart on their sleeve, even if it’s scary to be vulnerable. We need to be more vulnerable, even when we don’t have all the answers. After all, the purpose of life is to love in my opinion.”
A slow array of soft acoustic guitar plucks brings in an ease and a calmness to introduce the track before Hucek’s raw and powerful voice opens up,

Echoing harmonies ensue as the song builds and the lyrics paint a picture for a scene so many of us have been a part of,

The chorus is short and sweet, but an explosion of how it feels to let your guard down and do just as you feel, even if it is the scariest thing in the world,

There is an actual vulnerability you can hear in Hucek’s pleading voice as she continues to sing from seemingly the bottom of her heart.

There is a small break in music building to the culmination of the song, an abundance of truth and an exposure of fear that most are unwilling to admit,
It’s been a reckless five years
I didn’t know what to say

“Vulnerable” is just one single in a strew of eclectic bops that Marilyn Hucek has worked effortlessly to release in the wake of the pandemic.
Most recently, she released her fourth single, “I’m Not Sorry,” serving as a message of empowerment to women, and herself, who consistently find themselves apologizing and being penalized for speaking their mind.
