When you love someone, they say you should let them go – but no one ever says how hard that is. Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Away From You,” an enchanting inner upheaval that reckons through living with or without your special someone. Independently out February 16 via Simone Records, Sara-Danielle’s first single of the year (and the latest off her sophomore EP Another Self, out April 1) finds the Canadian singer/songwriter dwelling in her own heartache, with a lush sonic landscape shining musical warmth and wonder on her plight. Working with producer producer and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Mac Cormak (Helena Deland, Emilie Kahn, Gabrielle Shonk, CRi), the Montreal-based artist creates an enchanting atmosphere ready to whisk listeners off into their own dreamy dazes; were it not for the gutting emotional turmoil in her lyrics, we might just call this song a radiant reverie.
Yet it’s Sara-Danielle’s story of longing and connection – her closeness to, and her reluctance to part ways with this loved one – that gives “Away From You” its ultimate allure. She sings in the chorus:

“It’s about wanting to do what’s best for the ones you love, but being pushed aside, because it was hurting them in the end,” the artist tells Atwood Magazine. “Questioning whether you should leave them alone, and hope they’ll come back, or keep hanging on so they know you’re still there when they need you. It’s about love, honesty, mistakes, and forgiveness.”

Following 2021’s utterly enchanting singles “Dance with You” and “Want More” – the latter of which received praised from Atwood Magazine’s own Josh Weiner as “an interesting commentary on the Dionysian qualities of modern-day consumerism“ – “Away From You” finds Sara-Danielle injecting both energy and emotion into her art. The song radiates with a kind of sun-soaked, almost summery energy, thanks in part to the artist’s soulful vocal performance and in part to the indulgent beat and moody groove at the music’s core.
