I think being a Grenadian is a vibe, and I wanted to capture that chill, island time, easy-going vibe that I get from being home.

JEVERSON’S latest release is a radiant reminder that the best things in life are free: A smile-inducing song with a sweet island vibe, “Somethin’ in the Water” invites us to sit back, relax, and soak in the beauty of being alive.

Somethin’ in the Water – JEVERSON
When I ain’t got a dollar
I still got that good good feelin’
There must be somethin in the water.
She won’t leave, won’t leave me alone
She’s beggin me to take her home
There must be somethin in the water

Released February 18 via FGM Records, “Somethin’ in the Water” is Grenadian singer/songwriter JEVERSON’s first single of 2022 and the latest track off his forthcoming debut EP, slated for release this March. Having debuted just last year, JEVERSON has already made a meaningful impact on listeners through his expressive, groovy, and uplifting soul-soaked sound. From the dynamic “Move” to the blissfully cinematic “Stupid Mad Love,” the up-and-coming artist can fill our ears with pain and passion, sorrow and joy.

“I am a soulful singer. I love old school sounds mixed with new age elements,” JEVERSON told Atwood Magazine last year, in talking about his sound. “You can expect a soulful feel with a little splash of spice in there.”

If “Somethin’ in the Water” has some spice, it also has everything nice: A buoyant groove is propelled onward by pulsing drums and a dynamic, unrelenting bass guitar, and on top of everything lies JEVERSON’s sun-soaked vocal performance: One filled with the good kind of ache. Cherishing life’s special moments, he rises and shines in a spirited, rousing chorus:

Don’t, don’t take it away from me
I love being lost right here
Wanna stay havin a good time, havin a good time
Don’t, don’t take me away from here
I don’t wanna go nowhere
Wanna stay havin a good time,
Livin in paradise.

“I’m super pumped with the release of this single,” JEVERSON shares today. “The inspiration for this song is this amazing stretch of sand in my home country of Grenada called Grand Anse Beach. It’s my magic place. It’s where I go when I want to think, reflect or just hang with friends. It’s also where I’ve met some amazing people… a few of those people have changed my life, and I started thinking that there must be something about this place, this beach and that water that is responsible for me having the experiences that I’ve had.”

“When Exit Daze (Nick Lotto) sent me the music for this track, I immediately thought of the line “Somethin’ in the Water” and we wrote the lyrics surrounding that idea. It’s an ode to the good vibes we found while just living life on the island. I think being a Grenadian is a vibe, and I wanted to capture that chill, island time, easy-going vibe that I get from being home. I’ve always wanted to sing soulful music and I think I’m finding a simple balance between island vibe and soul/funk and I absolutely love it. I’m hoping my fans will love it too.”

I don’t search cuz it’s not hard to find a love that’s scared, old as time
There must be something in the water
Im feeling like im flyin supersonic meditation for my mind
There must be somethin In the water
We gon live it up like its Friday night
Got one in the air cuz we feeling right
Catch another body I just might
This is the life

It’s not necessarily the allure of island life that makes JEVERSON’s music so appealing, although there’s certainly some of that at play here; rather, it’s the artist’s deeper understanding of what really matters in life that helps him to so easily stand out from the crowd. Connection, relaxation, contentment, appreciation – these themes run throughout “Somethin’ in the Water,” inviting us to bask in the same reverie the artist feels when he’s down in his special place. Most listeners to this song won’t have ever been to Grand Anse Beach, but we can all appreciate the warmth and wonder that place brings its visitors. Stream this song below and let the music take you away, if only for a brief second.

JEVERSON’s debut EP is set to release in March 2022.
