The song is about falling for someone but knowing that it won’t last. It’s bittersweet: You know you’re not compatible, but you’re going to enjoy it for what it is, live in the moment, and have an amazing time.

There’s “something beautiful” about embracing the transient, temporary things around us: From friends and lovers to cities and homes, our lives are filled with coming and going. There’s an ebb and flow to everything in this world, and while accepting this truth doesn’t make the acts of moving on or leaving any easier, it allows us to approach life with a clear head and fresh perspective. East London’s Chinwe revels in a fleeting moment of intimacy and connection on her new single “Something Beautiful,” a soulful and summery downtempo seduction dwelling in the good things – however transient or temporary they may be.

Something Beautiful - Chinwe
Something Beautiful – Chinwe
Spiced rum
Under red sun
Brought summer nights
Where it all begun
With you
Something so new
But love’s fleeting
Ever deceiving
I hold him down
But I can’t keep him
I know
But until I let go

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Something Beautiful,” Chinwe’s first song release of 2022 (independently out June 29th). A singer/songwriter and producer at home with the art of the soft and the subtle, Chinwe debuted three years ago with 2019’s summer release “June.” Her captivating voice can carry a song all on its own, yet Chinwe has added a world of texture, color, and flavor to every release that elevates her vision and accentuates her craft. In premiering her airy and atmospheric 2020 single “Intoxicated,” Atwood Magazine praised the artist for delivering a “seductive, hypnotic, and dreamy indulgence,” calling the song “a dazzling blend of soul and psychedelia that soothes the mind and heart alike.”

“Something Beautiful” is also Chinwe’s first release since putting out her debut EP Scar Tissue last August. “Writing was really therapeutic for me and my own attempt at coping with feeling so out of control in ways I had never experienced before,” the artist said at the time. “It’s crazy that even in the strangest, most isolated times, there are still so many pockets of love and loss, so I tried to write about them as best as I could on the EP.”

Her latest release sees her continuing to explore a pocket of love, dwelling not in our coming and going, but in the intimate space in between – when we’re actually present, together, and connected. A sweet harp, keyboard, and drum kit form a mellow backdrop, atop which Chinwe’s tender vocals shine:

Show me something beautiful beautiful
Make me scream out your name
I’ll show you something beautiful beautiful
Watch me drown in champagne.

“‘Something Beautiful’ is about falling in love with someone but knowing that the relationship probably won’t survive past the situation or the circumstances that brought you together,” Chinwe tells Atwood Magazine. “It’s bittersweet because you know you’re ultimately not compatible, but at the same time, you’re going to just enjoy it for what it is and live in the moment.”

“I got into a relationship one summer and it was literally the essence of the song. At the start it was all sunshine and good vibes, but there’s only so long that can last. Reality hits when you look deeper at each other and start to realise it can’t be what you hoped it would be.”

Brown eyes
Warm lips
Send butterflies
Straight through the depths
Of my soul
It’s beyond control
The way I feel
Lost and found
Fell in too deep
This time around
Flying so high
But it all falls down
I know, I know, I know
But until I let go

Meditative and ruminating, Chinwe invites us to stop and sink into the here and now.

“Something Beautiful” begins with a recognition of the end in sight. For some, that might make an entire endeavor feel pointless or frivolous, but Chinwe encourages us to see the good for what it is, rather than something “doomed” or “ill-fated.” Just because something has an ending doesn’t take away its value; whether it’s an intimate connection or a home we inhabited for a brief, but special period of time, these things stay with us; they are forever a part of who we are, and we can not only appreciate them, but also cherish them while we have them in our lives. Life is short and fleeting as it is; why not embrace every moment and live for today?

“Something Beautiful” out June 29th.

I know there’s no forever, forever
Something in his darkness comes around
They’ll be no forever, forever
Something in my darkness drags us down.
Show me something beautiful beautiful
Make me scream out your name
I’ll show you something beautiful beautiful
Watch me drown in champagne.
