Released March 31 via Magnetic Moon Records, “Elated” is Racquel Jones’ triumphant 2023 return, as well as the first single taken off her forthcoming sophomore album, Grey Area (out August 18). The Jamaican-born, Los Angeles-based artist’s first solo release since 2021’s debut album IgnoRANT builds upon the breathtaking foundations she laid just two years ago.

“Once I had an epiphany that our gift as creatives is to first heal ourselves and then use that knowledge to heal and impact the world by virtue of our talents,” Jones tells Atwood Magazine. “While going through a rough time in my life I finally understood that. I could either write music to commiserate these struggles, or write music to heal and uplift myself through it. I chose the latter. I wrote ‘Elated’ on a day when I wasn’t feeling my best. I decided to write a song to help myself feel better about my life and where I was on my journey, acknowledge my struggles as a conduit to my success, and feel safe in celebrating the victories I’ve won so far. My hope is that if anyone who hears this song is feeling as I did the day I wrote it, that by the end of listening, they will have feelings of elation, joy, clarity and strength.”
