I think if our music makes people feel less alone in this world, that’s the one thing I wanna do… the world is going crazy, and I do hope people find some comfort and maybe even a feeling of sanity in music.
* * *
“I see mountains, I see forests, I see birds seeking shelter,” Soft Loft’s Jorina Stamm sings in a moment of pure grace.
Her words echo like a mantra for resilience, carrying warmth, wonder, and quiet strength in every breath. Gentle acoustic strums ripple like raindrops on a windowpane, and Stamm’s voice – aching yet assured, fragile yet strong – rises to meet them with breathtaking clarity.
“Dorm,” the Swiss indie band’s latest single, is as tender and soothing as it is warm and welcoming – a soul-stirring lullaby for resilience and release, a moment of raw humanity that’s come to us when we needed it most. One of the most beautiful releases of 2025, “Dorm” is dreamy, golden, heartfelt, and profoundly human: A two-and-a-half minute reminder that times can, will, and do get tough, but we are still here, still stepping outside, still moving forward.

I walk alone
on rocky stone
slippery ways
now and then
now and then
some rays
I see mountains
I see forests
I see birds seeking shelter
I see mountains
I see forests
I see birds seeking shelter
oh it’s raining but I still
oh I still step outside
Released September 19, 2025 via [PIAS] Recordings Germany, “Dorm” is Soft Loft at their most intimate and inspired. The Brugg, Switzerland-born collective – comprised of Jorina Stamm (vocals/guitar), Lukas Kuprecht (drums), Marius Meier (bass), Sarina Schmid (keyboards), and Simon Boss (guitar) – have long sought to make music that feels like a safe space. Their Modern Roses EP, released earlier this year, was hailed by Atwood Magazine as “a heartfelt, handmade collection that invites us to sit with our feelings… and find beauty in the in-between.”
Where that record bloomed with sweeping indie pop and radiant balladry, “Dorm” arrives softer and subtler, a single beam of light piercing through the storm.
Its charm lies in both its simplicity and its sincerity. As frontwoman Jorina Stamm explains, the song was born in the rain:
“‘Dorm’ is about life and pulling through,” Stamm tells Atwood Magazine. “I remember very well sitting in Ticino writing new songs and somehow it felt like I didn’t have much left to say, and asked Luk what I should write about. It was raining outside, but still so beautiful… He mentioned something about it being rainy outside but wanting to still step outside and that kinda hit something and the words came pouring out.”
She continues, “It’s a simple story and somehow a simple song, but I think that’s exactly what it’s about – it’s about looking up and appreciating the beauty around us and about pulling through when times feel a little tough. It’s always good to step outside, even when it’s raining.”
no one to call
the phone’s left alone
I’m getting my shoes
on and go
go and take a stroll
That unadorned honesty – as sweet and sentimental as it is real and true – is Soft Loft’s superpower. It’s also what makes “Dorm” so utterly irresistible. Built from Stamm’s delicate fingerpicking and blossoming into rich harmonies, the track captures the intimacy and intentionality of stepping forward despite the weight of the rain. “I see mountains, I see forests, I see birds seeking shelter,” Stamm sings, her voice glowing like a lantern. The chorus lifts the song into a communal moment – one to chant together, to hold onto, to believe in. Especially in October 2025, as the world teeters in uncertainty, “Dorm” arrives like a balm: A harbinger of perseverance, of hope, of tender resilience.

If you’ve been searching for music that feels like a hand on your shoulder and a breath of fresh air, look no further.
With songs that are at once intimate and expansive, gentle yet fearless, dreamy yet grounded, Soft Loft are an undeniable artist to watch – not because they’re chasing perfection, but because they’re committed to capturing what it feels like to be alive in all its beauty, fragility, and mess. And in a year defined by uncertainty, fear, and longing for connection, “Dorm” bottles that experience in four minutes of hushed radiance – shining as proof of what this band does best, and reminding us all of what really matters in this world.
I see mountains
I see forests
I see birds seeking shelter
I see mountains
I see forests
I see birds seeking shelter
oh it’s raining but I still
oh I still step outside
oh it’s raining but I still
oh I still step outside
With that in mind, we caught up with Soft Loft’s Jorina Stamm to talk about their music, their journey, and the heart behind “Dorm.” As the band continue to grow into themselves, their music only becomes more vital, more human. Read our intimate interview below, and let this song’s words be a reminder to step outside – even when it’s raining – and find the beauty that’s always waiting for us.

A CONVERSATION WITH SOFT LOFT

Atwood Magazine: Soft Loft, for those who are just discovering you today through this writeup, what do you want them to know about you and your music?
Jorina Stamm: Soft Loft is a band, we’re close friends just trying to do music as honestly and with as much fun as possible. Music always helped me so I hope our music finds the right people so that it can help too.
I love that you've recently started calling yourselves an “indie-something-something collective” – way to avoid any boxes, while keeping it light! What do you hope to inspire through the music you're putting out into the world as Soft Loft?
Jorina Stamm: Thanks! I think describing our music in boxes is the hardest thing ever, cause after all we’re the ones just creating something and not particularly the ones putting it into genres. I remember getting asked about what genre our music is for our press text, and as I didn’t have a good answer, I answered “indie-something-something,” and we kept it as it’s as accurate as possible! [laughs]
Who are we even to inspire? I think all we want is for us to be able to do music and to do it with as much devotion as possible. The thing I love most about music is that it brings together and it lets people feel, so I just hope that people will connect. Our first EP was called ‘In Case You Still Get Lonely,’ as music always helped me when I was feeling very alone, and I think if our music makes people feel less alone in this world, that’s the one thing I wanna do. Especially in the past few months the world is going crazy, and I do hope people find some comfort and maybe even a feeling of sanity in music.
Earlier this spring we discussed your EP, Modern Roses. What is your relationship with that record and its songs now, about half a year out from its release?
Jorina Stamm: It does feel like a really long time ago already cause so much has happened since then, but it still feels good and it still feels like we created something that was really just for us and now people get to enjoy a part of us.

What's the story behind your new single, “Dorm”?
Jorina Stamm: It “Dorm” is about life and pulling through. I remember sitting in Ticino writing new songs and somehow it felt like I didn’t have much left to say and asked Luk our drummer what I should write about. It was raining outside, but looking outside the window watching trees and mountains and the rain somehow felt very comforting… He then mentioned something about it being rainy outside but wanting to still step outside and that kinda hit something and the words came pouring out. It’s a simple story and somehow a simple song, but I think that’s exactly what it’s about, it’s about looking up and appreciating the beauty around us and about pulling through when times feel a little tough. It’s always good to step outside, even when it’s raining.
“I see forests, I see mountains, I see birds seeking shelter” - Can you share a little bit about what these lyrics, about what these words mean to you?
Jorina Stamm: The line is pretty much about describing what I saw in that moment while writing the song but also trying to get people to look around them a little bit more and appreciate the beauty we’ve got all around us if we would just step outside.
What immediately struck me about this song is how soft and tender, how utterly aching it is. Was that a conscious choice for the production, or did it come naturally with the lyrics?
Jorina Stamm: With this song, everything kind of happened very fast and felt very natural, there wasn’t a lot of thinking about it. It just kind of came as it is now, and we’re very happy with the ease and urge it’s got.
You've previously shared how “Dorm” is about pulling through – stepping outside, even when it’s tough, and looking up to appreciate the beauty all around us. What about these ideas and emotions inspired this song – what is it about, for you?
Jorina Stamm: I think exactly this, to not let yourself sink too deep into your blankets and still get up and do something, get inspired, go outside, do everything to have the life that you want for yourself. And do this even if it’s hard sometimes and you don’t feel like stepping outside in the rain.
Because I know how much energy you put into the songwriting portion, what are your own personal favorite lyrics in this song?
Jorina Stamm: Hmm, tough question ‘cause it wouldn’t really be a song that I’d be specifically proud of any of the lyrics, but more the vibe it transports. But let me say: “I see mountains, I see forests, I see birds seeking shelter. Oh it’s raining but I still, oh I still step outside.”
I like those bits most ‘cause they’re kind of observing but still they stand for a whole lot more, they stand for a strength to not stay in your little shell all the time and they stand for being brave and outgoing and kind of stepping outside and doing hopefully all the right things.

Hope is such an intoxicating feeling, and it seems to trickle through “Dorm” in both simple and unexpected ways. I find myself feeling lighter after listening, despite or perhaps as a result of the song's rawness. What's your relationship like with hope, as an emotion and an idea?
Jorina Stamm: Ah I love this! ‘Cause when the song got released, I wrote something about this song somehow being such an easy and simple song and that it hopefully would make people feel more at ease. And being at ease is somehow connected to being hopeful, I guess. My relationship with hope, I guess I’m always looking for hope in every situation and especially in songs, I tend to try to turn the saddest song into a hopeful scenario in the end. Can’t leave people hanging in the sadness. And especially today, what would we do without hope. Let’s be hopeful and step outside and turn stuff around.
What do you hope listeners take away from “Dorm,” and what have you taken away from creating it and now putting it out?
Jorina Stamm: I hope listeners take away this ease and urge while listening to the song, I hope it makes people go outside in the rain and I hope it makes people be all cuddled up in a blanket at home afterwards. Also it’s a good song to sing along and do harmonies, I hope people sing with it haha!
It’s funny how it was written so fast and now also released so fast and I have to remind myself that releasing a song or putting music out there is not always very meaningful as I would love it to be, but we’re so proud of what we’ve done and the song sounds so good we’re just happy to share that with the world and everything else will come once we’ve stepped outside a couple of more times.
