When we last caught up with Melbourne musical sensation WILSN, she was inspiring an entire gender to stand up and “Fight Like a Girl” with last May’s inspiring single. A self-titled EP and standalone single in November kept the singer/songwriter in our ears and minds throughout 2019, and now WILSN has returned with another stunning anthem to get us through yet another rough patch: Heartfelt and hopeful, “Deep In It” is a soulful cry full of passionate emotion that speaks not only to anxiety and vulnerability, but also to the mixed bag of emotions the world is currently experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s the latest in a string of singles Atwood has been highlighting that help alleviate the pain of disconnect, detachment, depression, loneliness, and solitude.

I was crying tears
Over a river
Adding water to water
But where were they going
Held my breath for years
So easily triggered
My heart getting harder
Without even knowing

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Deep In It,” WILSN’s first single release of 2020. Rising out of a dark space, the song finds the Australian artist looking back on tougher times with compassion and pain – compassion for who and where she was at that moment, and pain at her inability to go back and help her past self move forward. Centered around WILSN’s voice with minimal instrumental layering, the song highlights the artist’s stunning vocal talent as she once again leaves an audience in awe of her command of the microphone.

I was so blind
Almost missed the light
Leading me, back to myself
For a long time
I thought I was living in the wrong life
Don’t know how I didn’t
Didn’t see the signs
I guess I was watching through the wrong eyes
I was so deep in it
I was so deep in it

“Writing this song was a really cathartic experience,” WILSN tells Atwood Magazine. “I went to LA earlier this year for a writing trip and was lucky enough to land a session with two amazing writers that I instantly clicked with in Rosi Golan and Davis Naish (who also produced it). I’ve always been quite an anxious person, and sometimes being an artist and putting yourself out there in public can add fuel to that fire. It’s really hard sometimes. So being able to actually use that and translate it into this song was a really, really great feeling.”

Wrote it on the wall
It’s all getting better
Releasing the burden
Like a stone off my chest
If I was someone else
Asking for my help
I’d say keep your eyes wide open
Find the light that leads you back to yourself

Those who have felt like a stranger in their own skin; those who have struggled with depression, anxiety, confidence, and self-worth; those who have lost themselves in the sea of life will find refuge, comfort, and a home in “Deep In It,” as we’ve all been deep in it and needed someone or something to help get us out.

There is no magic wand we can wave and set our problems free, but hopefully music can be a part of the solution – a piece of the puzzle that brings us back to ourselves, and takes us out of wherever we are or wherever we’ve been, and helps us on our journey to self-love and care.

In covering WILSN last year, we described her song “Fight Like a Girl” as “an inspiring FLAG for people everywhere to wave, wear, and sing with pride… Inspired by her own experiences as well as an endless slew of stories, “Fight Like a Girl” rises out of intimate depths to become WILSN’s biggest showstopper yet.”

“Deep In It” once again finds WILSN turning personal experience into universal life lessons.

She is bold; she is intimate and honest; she is fractured, but whole – and above all else, she is uncompromisingly true to herself. Stream “Deep In It” via Atwood Magazine‘s exclusive link, and let WILSN’s healing energy and spirit flow through you as it flows through the song.
