From the dreamy depths of the soul comes a pivotal point of conflict and clarity.

I don’t run that way ’cause it’s wrong.” It’s such a simple phrase; a flat rejection, a negation, a dismissive, a denial. We’ve all been there at least once in our lives – forced to choose a lane at a consequential crossroads, holding fast and firm to our decision and its consequences, whatever they may be. There comes a time where you have to stand up for yourself and stick up for your beliefs; where you can’t let your core be shaken or swayed, moved to and fro like a palm tree in the breeze. After all, what are we, if not our convictions? Toronto’s ARK IDENTITY holds his ground – and his head up high – in his latest single “Bleed Out in the Night,” a tender and passionate dream pop song soaked in thick sound and heavy emotion.

It’s a recognition that we do have a say in how we live our lives; that we don’t have to bend to another’s will simply because we’re told to do so.

Run that way
I don’t run that way
Cause it’s wrong
Say you’re right
I won’t say you’re right
Going the right way
You leave me there to bleed out in the night
You run so fast the impact is a fight
You leave me there to bleed out in the night
You run so fast the impact is a fight

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Bleed Out in the Night,” ARK IDENTITY’s empowering fourth career song release (independently out September 25, 2024). Following his first three singles “Eyes,” “Atmosphere,” and “Screens,” “Bleed Out in the Night” captures singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Noah Mroueh – the creative force behind ARK IDENTITY – in a heightened emotional state as he reckons with external forces, finding the strength to resist whatever temptation is being offered his way. The song’s lyrics are vague enough to apply to any situation of dissonance and discord, where two people might disagree – and yet, the weight of the song, and Mroueh’s aching voice, reflect the gravity of the situation at hand.

Run that way

“This song is all about standing firm in your beliefs, even when everything around you is pushing you in the opposite direction,” Mroueh tells Atwood Magazine. “It’s about those moments when you have to say, ‘I won’t go that way,’ even if it means going through pain or conflict.”

“I wrote these lyrics from a place of feeling deeply betrayed. It’s that feeling of being left to fend for yourself in a dire situation, but still holding on to your integrity and refusing to let someone else dictate your path. The song captures the emotional struggle of resisting someone who’s trying to push you into something that just doesn’t feel right. It’s about the impact of that conflict, and how it can leave you hurt, but how you’re more determined to stay true to yourself.”

We’ve all got our own moral and ethical convictions, and in a free society, we’re each entitled to believe what we choose to believe. However, it’s when others start forcing those personal beliefs on those around them – demanding others comply with, abide by, or submit to their will – that deep societal issues emerge, and must be addressed. “Bleed Out in the Night” isn’t righteous, but it is bold in its assertion that another’s “right” is not necessarily our own, and that that’s okay. We’re allowed to stick to our guts, to trust in our hearts, and to follow our own paths, even if that means we may ultimately diverge from those around us.

ARK IDENTITY’s artistry is still very much emerging, but his first four songs already reveal a soul ready to share his unfiltered truths with the world around him. Stream “Bleed Out in the Night” exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for more to come from Noah Mroueh’s musical project over the coming months! His debut EP ANNDALE is set to release this November, and will be accompanied by a release show at Toronto’s Burdock Music Hall on November 8th.
