I’ve earned this joy I’ve got…
We deserve to be happy.
We deserve self-love and self-confidence; we deserve to be the people we want to be, and to live the lives we want to lead. Racquel Jones’ inspiring new single is a resounding reminder of these self-evident truths: A sun-kissed song of unbridled, unapologetic celebration, “Elated” is an intimate spiritual cleanse – an uplifting reverie of healing, inner strength, and perseverance.

Released March 31 via Magnetic Moon Records, “Elated” is Racquel Jones’ triumphant 2023 return, as well as the first single taken off her forthcoming sophomore album, Grey Area (out August 18). The Jamaican-born, Los Angeles-based artist’s first solo release since 2021’s debut album IgnoRANT builds upon the breathtaking foundations she laid just two years ago.
An impassioned, radiant, and fierce baring of the soul, IgnoRANT found the multi-disciplinary singer/songwriter, visual artist, painter, poet, and model coming into her own as a dynamic, captivating rapper and vocalist spitting stunning worlds of wonder. “Empowering, revolutionary, and unapologetic, IgnoRANT is a cinematic, visceral upheaval of seismic proportion,” Atwood Magazine wrote in a 2021 feature. “It’s a bold statement of affirmation and defiance; of passion and purpose; of dignity and inner strength.”
“Elated” is a forceful and fitting return for such a singular voice in the modern music canon. With its charged and charismatic message of self-love and healing, Jones’ return is a perfectly timed springtime celebration. She rises with passion and purpose in the song’s enthusiastic, light-giving chorus:
I don’t know what you been through,
Been through hell and back
Darkness is my opps
Still my mind’s in tact and
I’ve earned this joy I’ve got
Ain’t no looking back to that, no
Ain’t no looking back to that
“Once I had an epiphany that our gift as creatives is to first heal ourselves and then use that knowledge to heal and impact the world by virtue of our talents,” Jones tells Atwood Magazine. “While going through a rough time in my life I finally understood that. I could either write music to commiserate these struggles, or write music to heal and uplift myself through it. I chose the latter. I wrote ‘Elated’ on a day when I wasn’t feeling my best. I decided to write a song to help myself feel better about my life and where I was on my journey, acknowledge my struggles as a conduit to my success, and feel safe in celebrating the victories I’ve won so far. My hope is that if anyone who hears this song is feeling as I did the day I wrote it, that by the end of listening, they will have feelings of elation, joy, clarity and strength.”
My hope is that if anyone who hears this song is feeling as I did the day I wrote it, that by the end of listening, they will have feelings of elation, joy, clarity and strength.
“Elated” is sunlight manifest in soul-stirring sound.
It’s the song we deserve, here to remind us of all those feelings we deserve to feel right here, right now. Don’t delay your happiness and satisfaction; embrace it head-on, unapologetically, and whole-heartedly with the help of Racquel Jones.
