Get ready to dance.

Foley’s latest single is an irresistible invitation to move, to groove, and to surrender our bodies to the beat.

It’s an invigorating rush of disco-tinged pop, complete with glistening guitars, pulsing bass and drums, and celestial vocals packed with passion and aching with raw emotion.

Hot, heavy, seductive, and sweaty, “Fever” is an intoxicating, all-consuming reverie – the kind of song that uplifts and inspires, all while tapping some deeper truths about our shared human condition.

That’s Life, Baby! - Foley
That’s Life, Baby! – Foley
I notice a pattern every time
it’s close to midnight (oh baby)
You wanna see me,
You’re so needy on the sidelines
(oh baby)
I’ve not been yours for months
Left you in the gutter baby
I can’t help if you catch a chill

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Fever,” the fourth single taken off Foley’s highly anticipated sophomore album, That’s Life, Baby! (independently out February 28th, 2025). Following their previously released songs “Heartstrings,” “Unstable,” and “Low and High,” “Fever” finds the indie pop duo of Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett doing what they’ve long done best by channeling intense, familiar feelings into big, bold beats and dance-friendly melodies.

A former Atwood Magazine Editor’s Pick, Foley have been mesmerizing audiences since their debut some eight years ago. “With a sound that’s halfway between Oh Wonder and Fickle Friends’ indie pop charm and Kygo or Flume’s buoyant electronics, Foley seem intent to make audiences dance to the best of times and the worst of times,” I wrote back in 2018.

While this is perhaps their biggest dip into the disco world as a sonic template, “Fever” is in many ways a quintessential Foley song.

The lyrics paint a poignant tale of longing, yearning, and fervent desire, while the music electrifies the ears and energizes the soul. Centered around the feverish feelings of unrequited love – and the feverish pull of a great disco groove – “Fever” cleverly hits on multiple levels, delivering a magnetic eruption of spirited sound together with a sensational singalong.

“In a way it’s the continuation of that story where a past love is lingering on and they can’t quite find closure.” Foley shares with Atwood Magazine. “It was inspired by an experience where a friend’s ex kept showing up at every party, every cafe, and felt like they were almost around every corner!”

Wallace and Everett come to a (excuse the wording) fever pitch in the song’s catchy and cathartic chorus:

See you burning up
Don’t wanna make you suffer baby
Can’t help it
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s over
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s over
You’ve still got fever

While angst and heartache certainly play a part in this song, it’s ultimately Foley’s feel-good attitude that wins out – daring us not to smile as they manifest musical sunshine.

“‘Fever’ was written on a long weekend away to Auckland’s Waiheke Island,” Ash Wallace explains. “The songs we wrote over that weekend became the majority of the album, and I think ‘Fever’ is a perfect example of the spontaneity and fun we were having at the time.”

“At its core, it’s the sister-song to the album’s title track (‘That’s Life, Baby!’) – where an ex won’t stop appearing everywhere you look. It’s cheeky, sassy, and has quite a lot of side-eye! We made sure the production matched, too; it was really fun to try out the dramatic stop starts, and the punchy bass to lend some weight to the lyrics.”

I see you out dancing
And you watch me like a horror (so crazy)
Stop tryna hold me just to
make the landing softer (oh baby)
You can take a punch
But can’t admit your heart is breaking
You act like it never will

With their sophomore album out in less than a month, it’s safe to say Foley are already on cloud nine – and with a song like “Fever” now in their arsenal, they’re sure to bring listeners along for the ride.

Described by the band as a “time capsule of experiences reflecting their evolution from questioning life’s complexities to embracing its unpredictable nature,” That’s Life, Baby! promises to bring even more insatiable pop music into the mix as the New Zealand duo continue to pair “vulnerable confessions with infectious, groove-driven production.”

“We’re no longer trying to find answers or navigate life with songs like we used to,” Foley say.

“We’re accepting the messiness, the chaos and the joy that comes with everything.”

Stream “Fever” exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for the release of That’s Life, Baby! on February 28th!

See you burning up
Don’t wanna see you suffer baby
Oh why?
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s over
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s over
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s over
You’ve still got fever, oh no
(Still got fever)
