Love Me World - Soda Blonde
Love Me World – Soda Blonde
Someday I know I will be leaving
Virtual connection is not appealing
Will you be my orphan love
and when it gets too tough
I’ll give you away
Be the bullet in my side
to remind me that love is pain.
Love me world
I want you to love me world
Love me world I want you

Independently released September 24, 2020, “Love Me World” arrives short on the heels of Soda Blonde’s isolation • content EP, written and recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown in Ireland and described by Atwood Magazine as a “breathtakingly beautiful, timeless soundtrack to separation and disconnect, love and longing, heartache and hope.”

The four-piece of Faye O’Rourke, Dylan Lynch, Donagh Seaver O’Leary, and Adam O’Regan, Soda Blonde are easily one of 2020’s most exciting and talented acts: The Atwood artist-to-watch have an uncompromising sound and style that perfectly complements their emotive, layered lyrical poetry. Introducing themselves just last year with the single “Swimming Through the Night” and the four-track EP Terrible Hands, Soda Blonde have made a quick name for themselves in the past year thanks to their music’s truly stunning level of “depth, passion, and intent.”

“Love Me World” continues this steady winning streak, presenting itself as something of a confessional: An admission of fragility and insecurity; of needs and wants; of attention-seeking behavior. O’Rourke describes the song as an acknowledgement of the darker moments of wanting to be loved by everyone; “the idea of bending to fit the zeitgeist in the pursuit of acceptance and love.” She sings a soulful outpouring, her voice melting over heavy bass and a thick keyboard melody:

Afraid of everybody’s success I confess
Everyone’s dangerous to my ideas of myself
I was lookin for a feeling,
validate me, shape me,
heal me with love
But from my family and friends
and even you, my darling’s not enough
Love me world
I want you to love me world
Love me world I want you

Speaking briefly to Atwood Magazine, O’Rourke explained further that “Love Me World” is about “seeking validation and love from everyone and everything. It’s a song about bending one’s principles to fit within the zeitgeist, no matter what that might be.” Not only is this desire out front and center in the song, but it’s got this undeniable, unquenchable thirst about it: This is who I am, and this is who I want, the band seem to say. It’s a testament to Soda Blonde’s charisma that they can pull off this powerful moment of vulnerability with such a warm and unapologetic attitude; furthermore, they do it with grace and artistic finesse.

The evening of September 23rd saw Soda Blonde performing a thirty-minute live stream gig at a secret location in Dublin. The high-quality performance, which also served as the “Love Me World” premiere, found the band recreating their lush, enveloping music in a live context. They were in what looked to be a relatively tight, small space – and the way they played, they absolutely brought the room to life with hot colors, cool textures, and vivid feelings.

Soda Blonde have a compelling allure that is all their own – an energy that shines bold and bright.

Through honest lyricism and immersive, expressive music, they create a world with every song. “Love Me World” is one of self-recognition and acceptance; of desire and longing; of being true to who we are, whatever that means for us. Love me world, I want you to love me, world. It’s yet another irresistible indulgence from a band that can do no wrong.

It’s a song about bending one’s principles to fit within the zeitgeist, no matter what that might be.

Who are ya? Who are ya?
Love me world I want you to love me world
Love me world I want you
Love me world I need you to love me world
Love me world I want you
