It feels good to feel good, and in Lucy Park’s new single, she leans into that feeling with her full heart, mind, and soul. A refreshingly intimate embrace of the good times, Park’s sun-soaked song “Brighter Days” creates a space of positivity, gratitude, and celebration. Like she did earlier in the year on her debut EP, the artist envelops her audience in yet another seductive wash of warm R&B, this time inviting us to recognize, appreciate, and commemorate the love and light in our lives.

Think of it as a Thanksgiving ballad, a few weeks early.

This kind of love can make you wait
I need to come up for air
This time my luck won’t go to waste
I need to cross out my ex
Im gon make a point
In my mind if I’m praying bout you
We gonna make it boy
We’re aligned east side laying with you

Released November 5, 2021 via After Dinner Records / Culture Collective, “Brighter Days” is an intoxicating injection of smooth, stirring sonics and heartfelt emotion. Following this past March’s Before I Speak EP, Los Angeles by-way-of London singer/songwriter Lucy Park puts her talents to work in a song that sends gilded chills down the spine, building upon the soulful acoustic-electric R&B sound that has become the alluring foundation of her early work.

A lush, relaxed guitar line and cool, emphatic drumming make up the framework for “Brighter Days,” but it’s Park’s enchanting vocals that once again take center stage in this music: Her voice effortlessly evokes the intense emotions she sets out to convey, bringing her audience deep into her perspective and capturing just how much it means for her to feel comfortable with feeling “good.” The chorus expresses some of that vulnerability and intentionality, its captivating hooks and hypnotizing harmonies giving us plenty to love about both the music and the lyrics:

I been
On to brighter days
Out here Your love is so amazing
Heaven
Open up the gates cuz you’ve been on my mind I been
On to brighter days
Out here Your love is so amazing
Heaven
Open up the gates cuz you’ve been on my mind

Through her performance, it’s clear and easy to understand how being happy, and reveling in a space full of passion, understanding, and love, could mean so much to Park. “‘Brighter Days’ is about finding yourself in a better headspace than before, and reflecting on positive changes and those who supported you through them,” she tells Atwood Magazine. “It’s also about the many brighter days ahead. The lyrics are essentially about noticing yourself shifting into a better state of mind, and appreciating those around you who help you get there. It focuses on the appreciation of progress in various aspects of life and relationships.”

Close my eyes a 2nd divine
Imma text you back so don’t mention it Knowing myself
You are a mystery and I am a crime
Plan to take a trip away from old me
We could skinny dip but make it holy
You’re the antidote to feeling lonely
But I live in Hollywood
Im gon make a point
In my mind if I’m praying bout you
We gonna make it boy
We’re aligned east side laying with you

Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate another’s happiness, but there’s something naturally beautiful and musically irresistible about “Brighter Days.”

Park isn’t gloating about her good times; she’s gingerly opening up to an emotion she hasn’t felt much of in a while. “Plan to take a trip away from old me,” she sings, growing out of her former skin and trying on a new one. Through this song, it’s as if we’re going on that transformative journey with her: “Brighter Days” invites us all to taste the light of love like it’s our first time all over again. It’s a wondrous experience to undergo again and again – and that’s why we’re confident we’ll be listening to this song long into the new year and beyond.

I been
On to brighter days
Out here Your love is so amazing Heaven
Open up the gates cuz you’ve been on my mind
I been
On to brighter days
Out here Your love is so amazing
Heaven
Open up the gates cuz you’ve been on my mind
As birds fly like a feather ignites
I’m just the messenger
As birds fly
Like the wisdom of light
Your majesty writes
Keep you heard high as birds fly
