Highly regarded for his rich baritone vocals, V has always brought a deeper sound to BTS’ vocal line.

Between that and his love for jazz and classical music, fans always theorized about how his eventual solo album would sound.

On August 8th, armys everywhere rejoiced at the confirmation of V’s debut solo album, Layover, out September 8th via BIGHIT MUSIC. Fans have been abuzz, as V will be the last member of the group to release his own solo project. Touted as a collaborative effort between V and ADOR music label’s CEO Min Hee-jin, the mastermind behind the K-pop girl group NewJeans, the news sent shockwaves (and immense excitement) amongst the global BTS fandom.

With the excitement already brewing in the air, an album release schedule soon followed, as well as the release of the first track and music video “Love Me Again.” “Love Me Again” features V’s soft, crooning baritone on top of a soothing and melodic backing of instrumentals as he sings about wanting a lover to, for lack of better words, love him once again.

The accompanying music video shows V dazzling in sequins amongst the backdrop of a cave – shot in Mallorca, Spain – giving way for dreamy and soft visuals. The aesthetically pleasing video served as the perfect accompaniment to the track.

Following the success and excitement of “Love Me Again,” V released “Rainy Days” on August 11. The second single from the album features that same soothing and lustrous voice, however there is a clear juxtaposition between V’s performance on these first two tracks – showing the creativity and overall theme of wanting to show a new side to fans and listeners. While “Love Me Again” starts with instrumentals and a soft voice, “Rainy Days” starts with a piano instrumental, the telltale sign of phones pinging, and the sounds of typing, as if one were getting a text message and replying to that message.

Rainy days
I’m thinkin’ ’bout you, what to say
Wish I knew how to find the way
Right back to you, on rainy days like
Rainy days
I’m thinkin’ ’bout you, what to say
Wish I knew how to find the way
Right back to you, on rainy days like
Starin’ at my phone, 난 깨있지
Hopin’ for your call lately
I’ve been on my own maybe
이젠 지난 일에 맨날
Time with you was so amazing
Haven’t changed, it’s still the same me
늦었지만 우리 다시
Can we go back to that moment again? Yeah

V reminisces about the good times he had with this lover, and how he wishes for their call, so perhaps they can give it one more try. Especially on those rainy days.

Remember how I used to make you laugh the most
내가 이런 말 할 자격 없어도
Let me make up for all the time we lost
We can start again, open all the doors
Don’t tell me it’s ovеr, we can start it over
너는 나의 네 잎 clover
Yеah, I can feel your touch, I remember your kiss
그 말은 아팠지 and I miss you

The rainy days not only make him reminisce, but they also make him think about how, if they had one more try, he could show how his love and devotion had never changed; how he can still make them laugh and be happy.

I’m thinkin’ ’bout you, what to say
Wish I knew how to find the way
Right back to you, on rainy days like

The video accompanying the song provides an expressive visual, featuring V sitting in an apartment with a dog that resembles the likeness of his own puppy, Yeontan. The neutral color palette of grays, blues, and yellows sets for a calming backdrop and gives similar vibes of being inside on an actual rainy day. Fans have theorized that the video is in these colors as it’s meant to signal the visual of what V’s dog is seeing through his own eyes (because they have only two types of cones, the canine spectrum is limited to shades of gray, brown, yellow, and blue). The video also seems to be an artistic representation of V’s lyrics, keeping in mind the overall theme and vibe of the song itself.

As V’s deep baritone sings about thinking about a lover on rainy days, we see him lounge around a lavish apartment with his puppy, thinking about the lover he once had. Viewers also see the return of Vante, the name for the singer and songwriter’s artistic ego. There are bits and pieces of his art shown throughout the video, embodying the overall vibe V seems to want to express on this project. Visuals such as that of a flower budding from a thorn appear to be a symbolic representation of love – all definitely fitting for a romantic soul like V.
