Tell me if there’s love, baby, we have it. ‘Cause I want to believe in the classics…

We all want our love to be a timeless romance.

Something beautiful and legendary, like Baby and Johnny, Sandy And Danny, or Tony and Maria: Love stories for the ages. But that’s not the kind of love we see these days; the more realistic couples seem to be those like Bennifer or Brangelina. They’re not quite Romeo and Juliet – star-crossed and doomed from the start – but they’re not living happily ever after, either. Is this what modern love looks like? Is the love we’re dreaming of doomed to forever just be a dream?

Seattle indie pop artist Tinsley dreams of living out an epic, timeless romance in her radiant new anthem “Classic,” an intimate love song full of passion, hope, and raw, unfiltered emotion. In an era where everything feels replaceable, this song is a beacon of light for those who still believe in forever after.

Classic – Tinsley
I don’t want to be a casualty of novelty
We’re in a constant chase of new
How could I be enough for you?
‘Cause I can’t always be
your shot of dopamine

But I can listen closely
And if my features stay the same mostly
Will I blow your mind until the end of time?
I hope that I’m a place
you never tire of returning to

And I know, I know I’ll always keep
this candle burning for you

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Classic,” Tinsley’s first song of the year and the lead single off her forthcoming sophomore EP Love Songs, set to release August 18, 2023. Produced by Andrew Vait (Cumulus, Sisters), “Classic” arrives nearly a year after Tinsley’s last single, “Too Bad” (a duet with fellow Seattle singer/songwriter Justin Hartinger), and nearly three and a half years after the January 2020 release of her self-titled debut EP.

Dedicated to emotion-driven lyrics, memorable melodies, and “stories of love, loss, and lessons learned,” Tinsley has been making a name for herself throughout the Pacific Northwest for the past five years now. Her music has been well-received by the likes of famed alternative/indie radio station KEXP, and she’s played major Seattle music festivals including 2022’s Capitol Hill Block Party and Belltown Bloom.

2023 promises to see Tinsley take her career even further, embracing what she calls a “more organic indie pop direction” on her long-awaited sophomore extended player. The aptly-titled Love Songs EP is just that – a series of tracks embedded in, and embroiled in, love itself – and how better to introduce that series, than with a song soaked in hope for (and anxiety around) the greatest love of all?

“Classic” comes to a fever pitch in an emotional, cinematic chorus as Tinsley reveals her innermost desires: For a love that can last a lifetime.

Tell me if there’s love
Baby, we have it
Cause I want to believe in the classics
Tell me if there’s love
Maybe it’s magic
Cause all I ever needed
You’re all I ever—
Tell me I’m your classic (classic

It’s a vulnerable moment of truth for artist and listener alike, and one that faithfully captures the spirit of the whole song.

Tell me that there’s still a forever
Tell me that you’ll never
Stop wanting me like you do
Stop wanting me like I want you to
I hope that I’m a place you never tire of returning to
And I know, I know I’ll always keep
this candle burning for you

Cause honey I’m not replaceable
I’ll satisfy insatiable (woo!)

“If you’re a hopeless romantic, modern dating can feel super hopeless and not at all romantic,” Tinsley tells Atwood Magazine. “I wrote ‘Classic’ in 2018 about how dating apps made me feel like I was a replaceable commodity. I felt like I was an iPhone instead of a person just waiting to be one-upped by the next model, the next swipe. ‘Classic’ is a song about wanting to still believe that true love can last forever, and that the right person is going to stick around and love you even after they know everything about you. Even after they see your flaws, even when it might be ‘boring.'”

“I sat on Classic for a long time, but I always believed in the song. I started working with producer Andrew Vait in March of 2023 and he saw the song’s potential immediately. Together, we were able to turn my acoustic voice note into the epic, indie pop Taylor Swift’s 1989 inspired anthem it is today. I’m so proud of how it came together and hope the song resonates with you.”

Tell me if there’s love
Baby, we have it
I want to believe in the classics
Tell me if there’s love
Maybe it’s magic
Cause all I ever needed
You’re all I ever—
Tell me I’m your classic (classic)…
