Camp 8’s dark and stormy debut “Everything” captures the weight of love through a rich, bittersweet, and hopelessly moving soundtrack to intimacy and connection.

Don’t waste another breath, I’m going under for you.
All that is good, beautiful, and exciting comes at a price: It might leave you feeling empty, broken, worn, and weary. There’s no sensation quite as heart-wrenching as love’s loss, but there’s something to be said for the looming weight of doom that can hang over our heads. Camp 8’s dark and stormy debut “Everything” captures the weight of love through a rich, bittersweet, and hopelessly moving soundtrack to intimacy and connection.
With all of what you said to me
With everything I am
I want to know
When you held my hand
Was it honest?
You and me
To what? I’m holding on
Purging on the bridges
I’m praying I’m believed
It’s you. You and me
To what? I’m holding on
All the other ravings
have fallen down the range
It’s you.
Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering the music video for “Everything,” Camp 8’s powerfully poignant debut single (produced by Hayden Calnin). The brand new musical project for Melbourne based, New Zealand born songwriter Reuben Apirana, Camp 8 released “Everything” this past May and has slowly been gaining traction and attention in the weeks since.
A song of love with heartbroken undertones, “Everything” is an ode to the importance a person can play in someone’s life. The second stanza speaks of that anchor role our partners so often play: “You and me, to what? I’m holding on.” Apirana’s voice pours forth a solemn, pained expression of affection over producer Calnin’s moody, affecting bed of strings.
The result is nothing short of breathtaking: The intensely intimate soundscape bolsters Camp 8’s lyrics, cementing their depth and resounding meaning in our minds as he continues he lovelorn testament.
To some, “Everything” presents itself as a shrine to love. To others, it may feel like love’s deathbed.
How many of us are?
but you wouldn’t meet that promise
I’m heading home
Heading home for the end of days
and you didn’t get along
I’m in awe
Get around people, open it
And you’ve had quite enough of it
So I’m wrong.
So I let go
Of what I’m holding on
You held my hand
For a minute.
You made me man
For a minute.
“The song ‘Everything’ is a door to a bigger story, a story that Reuben has needed to tell,” Camp 8’s team recently told Atwood Magazine. “‘Everything’ is the preface to the emotion and aftermath of the ending of a tumultuous relationship, one that exploded. The rest of the story is coming in the form of an EP in 2019.”
“Everything” is just the beginning of the rocky road down with Camp 8’s music will run – and we can’t wait to be a boulder watching that stream take shape.

They belong with a 40 old you
couldn’t get back on it
Lead me on
Heavy hold it’s a lead
packed honouring you
Waste it all along
You want it all
Fight it back with a four D Roman
you couldn’t keep that promise
I won’t be long.
Don’t waste another breath,
I’m going under for you.
