Anna – Desingly feat. Racoon Racoon
It’s late, Daddy just came home, so drunk,
Who knows where he belongs
But Mum, she pretends to ignore
And years pass by with tears onto the floor
You take chances of all kinds
A lifetime to find the peace of mind
Holding charms, whispering the words
The Miracle appeared in the dust…

Released November 15, 2019, “Anna” is the second song released by French singer/songwriter Desingly. The musical moniker for multi-instrumentalist and producer Léonard Bremond (of the solo act Camel Power Club and half of chamber folk duo Racoon Racoon), Desingly represents Bremond’s leap into something new, freeing, and wholly his own. An indie folk project sprinkled with electronic elements, Desingly (re)introduced with September’s debut single “Ubuntu,” an upbeat and radiant folk-pop song.

If “Ubuntu” represents the artist’s light side, then “Anna” captures the subdued, ruminating alter-ego. “‘Anna’ is about this rare feeling one can have when meeting a person for the first time, but being under the impression to have known her for a long time already, maybe from another life,” Desingly tells Atwood Magazine. Soft, dark, and brooding, the track aches with deliberate instrumental holds and pent-up musical tension; above wondrous acoustic guitar, Bremond sings a movingly intimate soliloquy brimming with emotion:

This girl, you know she feels the same
This girl, you need to know her name
She learnt by heart the songs of pain
Way more than you, she could complain

Just as it seems to be getting too dark to see the light, Racoon Racoon’s Léa arrives with a burst of sunny energy and a breath of fresh air. Her oohs canvas the song with a simple, innocent sincerity; she adds to the track an elevating nuance that, when combined with Desingly’s hypnotic instrumental work, turns “Anna” into a simply irresistible dreamscape.

The ground collapses under your feet
You seek for the meaning and you beat a retreat
The tide is turning now she’s looking at you
In her eyes you see that she’s been waiting for you
This girl, you know she feels the same
This girl, you need to know her name
She learnt by heart the songs of pain
Way more than you, she could complain

Together, Desingly and Racoon Racoon turn a moment of separation into a special moment of connection and knowing. “Anna” is majestic: A beautiful folk-adjacent ballad full of turmoil and tranquility. Stream this bold, moving song below!
