A New York City-based folk artist hailing from Los Angeles, Symes commands attention through heartwarming lyrics, colorful melodies, and irrefutable charm. His music has grown tremendously since he debuted in 2016, when it was just him and his guitar: Songs like “Roll Me Away” and “Sugar Mama” from last year’s album and “Baby, My Baby” highlight Symes’ collaborative spirit, and the places he will go when given the opportunity to expand his sound.

“I wrote “Baby, My Baby” over the course of a couple years, starting between a move from the Bay Area back home to LA,” Symes tells Atwood Magazine. “I wanted it to be a fun, joyful sounding song and kind of disguising that not so joyful idea of being caught up with that distant, special someone. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve been able to record and I’m really lucky to have been able to track it with some incredible friends and musicians. The sound is absolutely inspired by folks like Nathaniel Rateliff, Van Morrison, Hiss Golden Messenger, etc. I think this song is a fitting first taste of this next batch of songs I’ll be releasing throughout this year.”
Despite the tense undercurrent running through the song’s words, “Baby, My Baby” shines like the sun. Symes injects his music with the kind of easy-going, uplifting charisma that can bring us through our own dark times, and up into better ones ahead. As the lead single off Symes’ forthcoming sophomore album, “Baby, My Baby” is sure to become a staple of our 2020 summer soundtracks and playlists, and a song we can be excited to play on repeat as it lifts our spirits and fills the room with light and good energy.
