Some tracks are growers, and some are immediate hits, but the best songs are those that make you fall in love from the first bar. Another Sky’s “Fell in Love with the City” is the kind of song that hooks you in before it’s even really begun. The soaring guitar riffs and a striking drum beat make an immediate impression but it’s Catrin Vincent’s wistful yet strong vocal delivery that clinches the deal.

I fell in love with the city
As I fell out of love with you
I fell in love with the city
As I fell out of love with you

Another Sky released “Fell In Love With The City” in June 2020, prior to their debut album I Slept On The Floor which followed in August. The band formed and played their first ever live show in 2017 and since then the excitement surrounding their live performances has only grown. Perhaps it’s the band’s knack for creating music that occupies a sonic space that is equally orchestral as it is suited to a stadium, or maybe it’s Vincent’s groundbreaking voice that has been described as once in a generation. Regardless of the reasoning, it’s undeniably true that Another Sky have an inescapable allure.

Strangers’ faces, holding their breath
I can see yours in all of theirs
In the windows, lives I don’t know
I feel like I’ve lived all of them

“Fell In Love With The City” denotes change and the seismic shift that occurred when Vincent escaped the claustrophobic traditional values of a small English town and found herself in London. At first listen, the track may appear as a simple break up song, but there are hidden depths to this atmospheric track.

Of course, to some degree, “Fell In Love With The City” is about a break-up, a break up with a former life and conformist expectations. From this came the concept for the song’s video. The music video follows Another Sky as they explore the city, capturing the idiosyncratic elements of London, as you might a partner. Such a music video only adds to the already intimate nature of “Fell In Love With The City.”

In all the world, home was you
Four walls and an empty room
In all the world, home is here
Out of your arms, home’s in me

The track shines and glistens with hope and curiosity but is also tainted, as most things are. “Fell In Love With The City” is euphorically anthemic but comes with a heavy underbelly. The new found love and self-acceptance explored throughout the song do not come without hints of fear. This is perfectly paralleled by the progressive rock elements that are evident throughout the track but is most evident as the song reaches its crescendo moment before the final chorus.

Another Sky has achieved a delicate level of musical poignancy in this adventurous and assertive new track. “I Fell In Love With the City’s” powerful presence is enough to lose yourself in or find yourself in, whichever you may need.
