A heartfelt blaze of simmering, smoldering passion, E L E Y’s searing debut single burns with a bright and resonant glow. With his heart on his sleeve, the Los Angeles artist comes to life in “Fire,” a soulfully sweet surrender of the self to another’s love.

Fire – E L E Y
You really got me fucked up
gave you my heart and my trust
I tried to make it simple
You threw those dreams out that door
running and running and running around
constantly constantly tearing me down
all the little games that you played with me
they make me say ooh!

Initially released on September 18, 2020, “Fire” doesn’t sound like a debut – it’s so refined and finessed, you’d think E L E Y had been in the business for years. Nevertheless, this buoyant R&B blaze is the first offering from 26-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer E L E Y – one of Los Angeles’ freshest, most promising new voices and an Atwood Magazine Editor’s Pick.

An intimate and groovy three-minute enchantment, “Fire” is a sweet and soulful upheaval full of earnest charm; it’s a fun, lilting immersion into a world of push-and-pull love, desire, passion, and longing. “We’ll take it to the wire,” the artist cries in a moving chorus. “I can’t live without your love.”

You set me on fire
I can’t live without your love
and we’ll take it to the wire
I can’t live without your love

These sentiments have all been sung before – we’ve known them for years – and yet in “Fire,” it’s as if we’re feeling them all for the very first time. That’s the magic of a great love song – and the euphoria of E L E Y’s art.

you probably think that I’m dumb
you fuck me over for fun
you’re taking more than you give
and I take what I can get
running and running and running around
constantly constantly tearing me down
all the little games that you played with me
they make me say ooh

E L E Y lit another spark earlier this week with the release of the artist’s first music video. Directed by Eliana Alcouloumre and produced by Herman Phillips, the “Fire” music video follows the artist on a “Sci-Fi journey on his last chance at love as the world ends. He self-reflects before taking the run of his life through the streets of LA to see his lover one last time.” The emotion driving the song gets a fresh, excitingly unexpected interpretation that gets us excited about the song in a whole new way.

“This video is special to me because it’s my first one, and Eliana who directed and wrote this story really captured the true vision I had for it,” E L E Y tells Atwood Magazine. “I’m so honored to be able to get this out the way we wanted to. Took us six months to do it, but I believe it’s perfect now!”

“Fire” is a smoldering thrill. Newer singles “what’s the catch?” and “Bed” have only further asserted the up-and-coming artist’s talents, ensuring we continue to pay very close attention to E L E Y moving forward.

The time is right for us to revisit this nine month old song, and bask in its heat once again.

You set me on fire
I can’t live without your love
and we’ll take it to the wire
I can’t live without your love
