This song is dear to me as it is my soundtrack to boldness. Being bold enough to believe in myself despite the disbelieve and prejudice based on my appearance…. It’s the dare to start the quest of connecting with my roots in my own authentic way.
We all deserve to believe in ourselves: To believe in our limitless potential; our individual capacity to do great things – and in his radiant new single, Kay Slice gives everyone (himself included) the wings we all need to fly. An invigorating marriage of hip-hop and Afrobeat, the Dutch-Ghanaian artist’s inspiring “Slice M Go” is a soaring and spirited anthem brimming with self-love and confidence, inner strength and passion.
Shout out to the teachers that
told me that I couldn’t do it
then they tryna pull up in the credits when I did it
Funny how it started how
they first tryna mock you at the start
and at the end they tryna hug you at the finish?
damn killing em in advance
killing em when I dance
feeling just like the trilla in manilla
bringing the spirit…
I been around for a minute
and came around in a scrimmage
now I’m pushing the limit
over your head like a fitted
and still they try to diminish
I want a 100 percentage.
No I don’t want a percentage
If I had to admit it… tell em I did it
… Quitted my job… just to handle my business
Released November 16, 2021 via Truemendouz Records, “Slice M Go” is a mantra come to life in a shout.
Kay Slice’s fourth single of the year finds the up-and-coming Afrofusion artist and producer spellbinding in a song full of heart, soul, cool courage, and unrelenting drive. A strong, dazzling beat forms the backdrop upon which he simultaneously tears down the haters while rising above the fray – addressing the “the teachers that told me that I couldn’t do it, then they tryna pull up in the credits when I did it,” “the kids up in my class that bullied me ’cause I’m Black,” and more. With a voice full of conviction and a freshly feverish flow, Kay Slice turns all eyes (and ears) on him. It’s his time to shine, and he knows it – because he made it happen.
My momma told me son it’s your time to get it, don’t expect no encore if you don’t take the stage…
“‘Slice M Go’ is a great marriage between hip-hop and Afrobeat,” Slice tells Atwood Magazine. “The bridge is truly soulful and full of tranquility. It’s a song with a lot of contrasts. It’s sunny yet raw, energetic yet composed, and uplifting yet rebellious.”
“This song is really dear to me as it is my soundtrack to boldness. Being bold enough to believe in myself despite the disbelief and prejudice based on my appearance. Bold enough to quit my job to fully pursue music. It’s the dare to start the quest of connecting with my roots in my own authentic way.”
Shout out to the kids up in my class that bullied me
’cause I’m black
but I’m blessed god pushed that melanin in
Man they won’t fully understand Colorism
is a thang based on your level of melanin
Damn why you tryna dim your glow
All we tryna get is growth
Why you think you’re losing if I’m winning?
As long as we don’t unite chale
Corporations still be going out for the win
First out to slice no Second guessing
Point of advice setbacks are lessons
Live out to rise live in the present
I don’t just rap but I do represent
The disbelief made me elephant man
Way sharper than I EVER WOULD BEEN
Feed the beast there’s evidence man
Brought me a degree plus an elephant skin
On the track’s creation, Slice reflects on a natural evolution that grew into this big, infectious revelry. “‘Slice M Go’ started as a basic yet energetic beat,” he recalls. “From there on I wrote the first verse, which really evoked an energy within me that I didn’t unlock before. After that, I started to compose the track with my live band. We’ve played a lot of shows all over the Netherlands to find out what works best. The track is a true live banger and we’ve performed it at the largest TV show in the Netherlands, De Wereld Draait Door.”
“Slice M Go” arrives as the final single off Kay Slice’s forthcoming debut album, set to release in January 2022. Intimate and universally accessible, the charged anthem reveals yet another side to Slice’s burgeoning, multifaceted artistry. As Atwood Magazine wrote just a few months ago around his previous single “Breeze,” “Slice emerges as a voice of passion and purpose; his performance is assertive and free, full of passion and emotion while ultimately channeling the kind of humility you can’t see, but can immediately feel.”
Fuel your fire with “Slice M Go,” and stay tuned for Kay Slice’s upcoming full-length debut album – a multidimensional record that promises to energize and enchant, no matter who you are or where you are.
