Flood lights on the stage flicker through various hues – rapidly changing the perception of time.
Immediately, closing your eyes amid the energy of a crowd, the imprint and array of spotlit colors pop and blend like a camera flash, emitting colors in the back of the mind. The opening notes of “Up All Night” add to these textures, blending this perception of day-and-night color grading seamlessly and unifying the elements of the environment. In this space, time blurs – memory, presence, and anticipation folding into one another in a way that mirrors the song’s emotional core.

Think in different ways
It comes with age
Everything I knew
Wasn’t here to stay
But I know the best
Times we’ve had
Are yet to come
I know
Up all, up all night
Feeling, feeling fine
Up all, up all night
Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Meltt infuse their work with psych-rock artistry, creating an aural experience that invites listeners deeper into a colorful, emotional terrain. Their sound creates a vision worth translating into a soft reflection — one that can be enjoyed as it liquifies into a personal harmony in the present moment. It’s a balance of weight and lightness – music that feels both immersive and immediate, grounded in sensation yet constantly drifting forward. Their last album, 2023’s Eternal Embers, connects to the thought of a physical landscape, land and sea, while intertwining a sense of emotional expanse within that space.
Since then, Meltt have headlined across North America, sharing their singular sound with audiences. In quieter, more remote moments, the band – Chris Smith (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keys), Jamie Turner (drums, percussion), James Porter (guitar, keys, bass, vocals), and Ian Winkler (bass, keys, guitar) – cultivated a creative sphere to continue their music, marking the beginning of a new sonic canvas with their third LP, Pathways, set to release June 12th via Nettwerk Music Group.
“Pathways is about four men leaving their 20s and figuring out their paths and lives,” bassist Ian Winkler shares.

“Up All Night” arrives as a key entry point into that reflection – a song that captures the tension between holding on and moving forward, between the past that shapes us and the future that calls us onward. The tune begins with rising keys that pierce the mind’s synaptic wavelengths. At the same time, the low-end kick drum softens the cadence, inviting the listener to relax into memories of connection and chance meetings – moments that linger even as they slip further into the past. The drum loop adds depth to the melodic array, offering a transparent reflection on life as Meltt adapts to the experience of shifting change: “Think in different ways / It comes with age / Everything I knew / Wasn’t here to stay” – opening an emotional question and welcoming cathartic sensitivity at the gate of desire, leaving air for an honest intention.
Yet the contrast of the second verse cracks open a shimmer of hope and anticipation for the same light that once arrived: “But I know the best / Times we’ve had / Are yet to come / I know,” illuminating a new perspective for the journey ahead. It’s a subtle but powerful shift – from reflection to resolve, from looking back to leaning forward. Each day carries a sense of movement, like waves in motion, as listeners move through the tune, allowing emotional walls to fall away from old ideas while yearning for growth toward the future. The song conveys an authentic sense of the passage of time. As the drum rides sustain for a brief measure, the elements shuffle, as instruments of color mix into an impression of light that emits into the mind when listeners close their eyes, “In and out of phase / We find a way / Towards the sun / In the night or day,” leaving a lasting impression of growth, hope, and connection that arises from life’s experimental shifts.
Passing waves
I’ll never forget you, get you
Nights and days
I’ll never forget you, get you
Up all, up all night
Feeling, feeling fine
Up all, up all night

Vocalist Chris Smith offers deeper insight into “Up All Night”: “You’re getting older, you sense these changes. Things don’t always stay the same, and you start to sense time passing you by. But you also still try to figure out how to make the most of your life all the time. You go through hard times in life and hold on to those memories while trying to always find the bright in the darkness.”
It’s a sentiment the song quietly carries from start to finish – not resisting the passage of time, but learning how to move within it. The tension between memory and momentum, between what’s slipping away and what still lies ahead, gives “Up All Night” its emotional weight, grounding its shimmer in something deeply human. Even in its most reflective moments, there’s a sense of forward motion – a belief that the light we hold onto can still guide us through the dark.
In and out of phase
We find a way
Towards the sun
In the night or day
So I know the best
Times we’ve had
Are yet to come
I know
Up all, up all night
Feeling, feeling fine
Up all, up all night

Passing waves
I’ll never forget you, get you

Hearts engrained
I’ll never forget you, get you
Up all, up all night
Feeling, feeling fine
Up all, up all night
