The whole song is intended to evoke a kind of distorted reality, like a game show gone wrong or the dark side of a casino.

There’s nothing like a heavy slog of chugging guitars and feverish lyrics to get you through a day – especially when you’re social distancing or self-quarantining. The world seems to have fallen off its usual rotation lately, but thankfully there’s plenty of music to get us through this unprecedented, scary pandemic together. Salt Lake City buzz band oh!no?ok. deliver a fired-up dose of slacker rock in third single “Wheel of Fortune,” a slick rock n’ roll number ready and waiting to take us on a ride.

Whether you need an escape or an indulgence, oh!no?ok. are here to help!

Wheel of Fortune - oh!no?ok.
Wheel of Fortune – oh!no?ok.
Slick black Cadillac
but I need to make a stack
Go ask the Lady Fortune if she’s home.
Cause every time you look at me
my brain fills up with dopamine
please get some cash I need a little loan.
Know I can’t win big without you now
Throw the dice and sin will show you how
I won’t walk away without your play
We were asked to stay I must obey
Cause it’s alright
I’m almost in the money
Loose change
Landy luck ain’t so funny
Cause it’s alright
One spin of the wheel
my fortune is sealed

I’m alright

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Wheel of Fortune,” oh!no?ok.’s third release and the latest single off their forthcoming debut album, randy warhole (or something). Since forming and then introducing themselves late last year with debut single “saw her first,” oh!no?ok. have made a quick name for themselves as one of Salt Lake City’s most exciting upstart acts. Consisting of high school friends Ryan Osborn, Cole Miller, Jackson Ludlow, and “local guitarist” Nick Storey, the band followed-up their debut earlier this year with the app ode “Candy Crush,” a tongue-in-cheek track full of angst, longing, and above all, passion: No matter how wacky or zany they try to make their songs, they all carry the same undercurrent strain of serious intent and commitment to the art.

That sort of energy ripples through “Wheel of Fortune,” a song that uplifts and excites. “‘Wheel of Fortune’ is meant to keep you on your toes,” the band tell Atwood Magazine. “The whole song is intended to evoke a kind of distorted reality, like a game show gone wrong or the dark side of a casino. The intro invokes the image of a light hearted game show, but there’s more at risk than meets the eye. We wanted to write a song about someone who’s so blinded by their chance at fortune, they’ll put everything at risk. Maybe they win the grand prize from a lucky spin but at what cost? Whether it’s a roll of the dice, a flip of the coin, or a spin of the wheel, what’s a man’s real intent when he conspires with lady luck?”

Hey now can’t you see
the winning team is you and me
Some say that we should stop while we’re ahead.
Martingale will place your bets
Go make your cut in french roulette
We’ll split it 50/50 like you said
Girl you got the brains i got the all
Make it to the top, we’ll climb the wall
I won’t walk away til i feel okay
When we’re asked to stay you know i must

Unassuming yet equally unrelenting, “Wheel of Fortune” hits hard and fast.

A riff-roaring good time, it’s the kind of rock song that plays over and over again in the head long after the last note dies. The band’s funky groove, tight chants, and whirling wave of guitars invite all who listen to step away from reality for a sec, into a space of risk and reward. Influenced by big ’80s pop/rock riffs but fresh nonetheless, “Wheel of Fortune” captures the tension of the unknown and the excitement built into any daring leap of faith.

oh!no?ok. are here to stay, and their debut album randy warhole (or something) is sure to ignite a fire in all who listen. Stream “Wheel of Fortune” exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for more from this promising Utah upstart!
