“I Wanna Spend It With You” – The Satellite Station

It’s hard to listen to The Satellite Station’s new song with a frown on your face.

Travis Rue’s music project has always had a soulful glow, but seldom has he made something this irresistibly sweet. Love comes to life on “I Wanna Spend It With You,” a smile-inducing celebration of intimacy and connection that soars with bright, uplifting Motown-esque pop-soul. Invigorating and endearing, this is the song of a happy heart: The declaration of someone who’s found their place in the world, next to someone special.

I Wanna Spend It With You – The Satellite Station
We took the long road getting here
Our hearts were workin’ overtime
I think the fog covered up my eyes
Cause now I finally realize
Cause I was rock
You were steel
Fire burns when we collide
All this time
Now I know
How I want to spend my life
I want to spend it with you
I want to spend it with you

Released July 21, 2023, “I Wanna Spend It With You” is an all-out eruption of warmth. The Satellite Station’s sixth single of the year is a radiant and spirited revelry – a feel-good outpouring of that singular euphoria that only comes from two people in love.

“This is probably my happiest song to date,” singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Travis Rue shares.

“I grew up listening to Motown (Jackson 5, Temptations, Marvin Gaye) and it continues to be my favorite era of music. I wanted to capture that feeling of happiness and timelessness that is found in every Motown song and layer on a bit of nostalgia as well. I write a lot of sad/slow songs, and I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone with this new album to bring in some more upbeat/happy vibes than what I typically do.”

Arriving on the heels of such tender songs as “Walls,” the spellbinding seduction “Look at You” (which also has a retro Motown vibe), and Atwood Editor’s Pick “Maybe Go Dancing” (which we called a “hauntingly beautiful enchantment”), “I Wanna Spend It With You” is a refreshingly upbeat offering full of energy and excitement. Joyful horns ring out over charging drums and Travis Rue’s smoldering voice as the song kicks into high gear and Rue proposes to spend the rest of his life with his partner:

I’m not sure what I saw
When I was lookin’ in your eyes
But now we are here it’s forever baby
Never gonna leave your side
Cause I was rock, you were steel
Fire burns when we collide
All this time, now I know
How I want to spend my life…
I want to spend it with you
I want to spend it with you
