Independently released July 23, 2021, Wyse’s “Not That Sorry” is not only the London-based artist’s first release of this year, but also her first offering since 2018’s debut EP Switch of My Controller. Marking the start of a new musical era for the singer, songwriter, and producer (she produces all her own music), “Not That Sorry” is the first of three singles and an EP expected in 2021 – and as a standalone song, it reintroduces Wyse as a formidable indie rock powerhouse.
Together with Kurt Phillips on drums, Bjorn Wray-Gough on bass guitar, Dom Coller on electric guitar, Wyse (who song credits include, but are not limited to: vocals, electric guitar, synths and keyboards, saucepans, percussion, and squeals) comes to life in a defiant, explosive track that can’t help but set the tone for the multifaceted artist’s future. Raw emotion boils to the surface in a charged four-minute rocker full of fire and fury.
For Wyse, this song is “everything I wanted to say, but I couldn’t,” in talking to a former boss. It’s a song born out of existential discord – of Wyse “becoming stuck in the ‘rat-race,’ desperate to find purpose in life.” She sings cool and confidently of the stark contrast between her life, and that of her subject:

Wyse explains that this song was built off her reaction to “a fractious employer, money struggles, a relationship break-up, loneliness in the confines of living with strangers in a house-share.” The result, as she herself says, is a “cathartic lyrical and musical outpouring of anger, sarcasm, mutiny and rebellion.” It’s a vessel through which she can vent all her frustrations, and yet just like the best of them, “Not That Sorry” can be about anything – meaning it very quickly (and easily) becomes our very own soundtrack to cathartic release.
