As ARMYs clicked the pre-save link when Big Hit Entertainment announced the news of Jung Kook’s first solo single, there was a collective shock of the song having an explicit and clean version. The surprise continued when Latto was announced as a feature on the song days prior to the release.

Released July 14, 2023, “Seven” takes its own spin on UK garage genre, featuring cheeky lyrics and a fun summer vibe. The explicit version has more suggestive diction but still has the same message, that he wants his lover seven days a week.

When asked about the production of the song, Jung Kook recalled “I deliberated on how more people could enjoy ‘Seven.’ This is my first time working on the [UK garage] genre, and the production process was very fresh and new. I also learned a lot from recording ‘Seven.’”

The movie-like music video features acclaimed Korean actress, Han So-hee and was directed by Bradley Bell and Pablo Jones-Soler. Han So-hee plays Jung Kook’s love interest and the two embark on a dimly lit city during a lover’s quarrel. Through natural disasters, Jung Kook keeps chasing his lover and telling her that he will keep “loving [her] right seven days a week.”

Jung Kook pours his heart out to a catchy and upbeat tempo. The bridge features Latto, where in the video she raps at Jung Kook’s funeral. Only for him to wake up from the casket at the end, symbolizing that through all the trials and tribulations, his love will continue. The video ends with Han So-hee, although seemingly annoyed the whole time, giving in and walking off with him hand in hand.

Jung Kook depicts a side of himself outside of what fans are used to from his songs within BTS. Dabbling in new genres and choosing to exhibit more maturity, this song marks his place as a soloist. Jung Kook is now the sixth out of seven members to debut a solo release during their new era BTS’ leader, RM, coined as Chapter Two. While this track shows a whole different side of him; his timbre and tone, unique to himself as BTS’ main vocalist, is the voice that ARMYs know and love.

The official music video will play through the Paramount Times Square billboards and “Seven” is making its television debut on Good Morning America at 6:30 AM on premiere day, Friday July 14th. ARMYs have been camped out in New York City since Monday to catch a glimpse at his highly anticipated performance.
