Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Kiss Me, Kiss Me,” Wynona’s sweetly seductive second single of the year. Out on Valentine’s Day, the love-soaked revelry follows January’s spirited “Feeling for Edges,” which Atwood Magazine praised as “an intimate and aching alt-rock anthem capturing the crushing weight of anxiety, emotional friction, and inner turbulence in our daily lives.”
Needless to say, “Kiss Me, Kiss Me” is something of a 180° turn from its angsty predecessor, what with its carefree embrace of unbridled passion and intimacy – and yet, the new track occupies the same sonic world that Wynona have been building out for months now, starting with last September’s debut EP, Split Ends.
A Reading, England-based band comprised of Natalie Woodward and Richard Willats (together with guitarist/producer Adam Hailstone and drummer Kurt Phillips), Wynona describe their music as “mum-jean rock.” They make a distinctly ’90s “mainstream alternative” sound that calls to mind such beloved acts as The Cranberries and The Sundays. It’s dynamic and just a tad gritty, but nonetheless befitting an adult contemporary radio station.
And what stands out most on “Kiss Me, Kiss Me” is just how well the band convey a familiar story of love’s first moments. “When there’s no time for subtlety and suddenly it’s 2 A.M, fumbling for anything,” Natalie Woodward sings, painting a vivid picture with her words. We’ve all had those nights where time escapes us, slipping through the cracks as we stay up talking, laughing, getting to know one another’s minds (and maybe more). “Exploring cautiously,” she sings in the second verse, “I’m spilling out as you’re pouring in. Don’t stop – give me everything.” It’s that yearning to be in sync with a paramour: To know them inside and out, to see the world they see, know the things they know, feel all the emotions they feel.

Wynona arrive at a radiant climax as Woodward throws caution to the wind and makes the plunge in a phenomenally catchy chorus: “Come on, just kiss me, kiss me, kiss me,” she implores, leaning in for that physical act of love. It’s the heat of the moment; the countdown to ecstasy. Talking is great, but kissing is just… better!

For Wynona, “Kiss Me, Kiss Me” is envisaged as the key song to a late ’90s rom-com; the moment in the soundtrack where everything changes for the better.
“We’ve been excited to release this one ever since we wrote it in late 2022,” the band tell Atwood Magazine. “At the time we had been watching films like 10 Things I Hate About You and Can’t Hardly Wait, and at the time I remember thinking this chorus would fit perfectly into one of those soundtracks – the way the guitars lift sounded like the feeling of getting swept off of your feet!”
“We just knew as we were coming up with a release plan for this year that we had to coincide this one with Valentine’s Day! It’s hardly a novelty to write a song about love, but this one felt so unapologetically saccharine and kitsch, whereas our previous songs had approached the subject of love and relationships from a more nuanced and melancholic angle.”
It’s refreshing to put something out that is such an unapologetic celebration of love.

Wynona recorded “Kiss Me, Kiss Me” in the “romantic Pembrokeshire hills of South West Wales at StudioOwz,” as Woodward so poetically explains. “Originally the lyrics were more cynical and tongue in cheek, but as the guitar arrangement began to evolve, we couldn’t resist softening the edges and giving the song a sweeter nature.”
For years now, bands – especially those in the indie and alternative worlds – have expressed reservations about writing obvious and direct love songs. It’s “too cliché” or “already done,” but if anything, that means it’s that much harder to write a solid, catchy love song that will win over listeners. What Wynona have done with “Kiss Me, Kiss Me” is in fact an impressive feat, as they’ve added a new, uplifting and invigorating anthem to the great pantheon of love songs – and it’s as utterly intoxicating as it is outstandingly unforgettable.
