For most, this year’s New Years was more of an observance than the traditional celebration. 2020 brought us isolation, uncertainty, fear, and loss as a plague – the likes of which we haven’t seen in generations – spread illness and death throughout the globe. 2021 arrived recently as a welcome relief from 2020, and while Tom Speight’s new single isn’t necessarily meant to usher in the new year, the UK singer/songwriter has this uncanny way of breathing hope into a hopeless, dark space. An uplifting folk rock rush of love, inspiration, and inner strength, “Everything’s Waiting for You” is an invigorating and perfectly-timed release.

Everything’s Waiting for You – Tom Speight
As dark as the night
Or Clear as day
Nothing’s gonna get in my way
from loving you
Even when it’s hard to
Thinking back to younger ways
Summertime in all its haze
Ive got your back
There’s no need to doubt that

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Everything’s Waiting for You,” the lead single off Tom Speight’s forthcoming sophomore album of the same name (set for release autumn 2021). Out January 8th via Nettwerk Records, “Everything’s Waiting for You” was co-produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms) and finds Speight bringing his charismatic, signature folk pop sound to soaring, anthemic new heights.

Speight has been a regular face and “artist to watch” on Atwood Magazine since 2018; in featuring 2019’s debut album Collide, we praised the artist’s way of embracing sweet harmonies and basking in a radiant wash of acoustic and electric guitars, not to mention his personal and intimate lyricism: “Inspired by loss, illness, hope, and love, Collide is the engaging, emotional debut record Tom Speight was always meant to make… It’s a testament to his songwriting talent that Speight manages to make old emotions feel new again.”

Following summer 2020’s Sunset Sound EP (a record “capturing themes of America, connection, hope, and perseverance“), “Everything’s Waiting for You” starts the year off strong for Speight with an assertion of resilience, compassion, and togetherness. It’s a doubling-down of the human spirit; a vivid reminder that we’re in this life together, and that if we’re going to get things done, we have to first believe in ourselves. Speight’s chorus is a sweet outpouring of catchy, cathartic affection:

Everything’s waiting for you
I’ll be by your side
If you feel like running
or your too tied to fight
Everything’s waiting for you
Just cast your eyes
Beyond the fear
There’s world out there for you

It is not naïve to believe in a brighter, better tomorrow, nor is it foolhardy to wear your optimism with pride. “Everything’s Waiting for You” is a sweet ray of sunshine that owns its positivity, in many ways capturing that essence that has characterized Speight’s music from the start.

“‘Everything’s Waiting for You’ is about taking on the world with your loved one,” the artist tells Atwood Magazine. “My girlfriend, like many people this year was feeling anxious, and I wanted to write her a song saying she could do anything and I will be beside her all the way. It’s a very simple message of saying, ‘I’ll be by your side.'”

“It came to me very quickly one early morning in March, and was one of the easiest songs to record on the album. Co-produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms) and I in Rak Studios, London in August. We spent two days working on the track. I wanted to create something very ambitious drawing from influences like The Killers, U2 & Kings of Leon whilst putting my own spin and sound on the track. We played with a selection of synths, different piano sounds and guitar delays to create something that crossed between my acoustic sound to a bigger sonic palette. I feel like it shows progression from my debut album to where I am now. I’ve always loved playing to big rooms, and I wanted to deliver something very positive that would resonate to a huge crowd. I really can’t wait for the live shows and to showcase the next record.”

As heavy as the heart
That walks with me
Nothing’s ever gonna change you’ll see
The way I feel
it’s oh so real
Everything’s waiting for you
I’ll be by your side
If you feel like running
or your too tied to fight
Everything’s waiting for you
Just cast your eyes
Beyond the fear
There’s world out there for you

I’ve always loved playing to big rooms, and I wanted to deliver something very positive that would resonate to a huge crowd.

2021 has only just begun, but we needed this dose of inspiration. Stream “Everything’s Waiting for You” ahead of its official release, and get ready for another difficult year – but one that may shine just a little brighter, thanks in part to the elevating music of artists like Tom Speight.

Love I hope you know
I’ll never let you go
You have my word it’s clear
I’ll never let you go
