Stream: “Outta This World” – GRAE

Normally I like my space, don’t like to chase, but I like your face – look what you started…

Iinfatuation is intoxicating: Those initial strains of love can so immediately overwhelm and enchant us, that we feel like we’re becoming someone brand new. It’s a radical experience that will turn us inside out and upside down; there’s really nothing quite like it in this world. Toronto artist GRAE captures the magic of infatuation in her tantalizing new single “Outta This World,” a blissful and buoyant love song brimming with electric passion and alt-pop wonder.

Outta This World – GRAE
Thinking you could be the one
I said it once, got it oh so wrong
Pull me into orbit
Everything you said tonight
Turned on my lights, feeling oh so right
You make me feel wanted

Independently released November 5, 2021, GRAE’s “Outta This World” is as spellbinding as the emotion it so effortlessly sets out to express. It’s the latest in a long list of beautiful, immersive songs the indie pop singer/songwriter has unveiled over the past two short, but very active years: Previously featured as an Atwood Editor’s Pick for her song “Your Hands” – described as “a dazzling, softly intense and emotive soundscape” – GRAE remains a relative newcomer, yet she already feels like a staple of today’s indie music scene. She has an absolutely enthralling, cool and smooth rhythmic alt-pop style about her – all of which can be felt in force on the artist’s debut EP New Girl, released in October 2019, and August 2020’s follow-up, Permanent Maniac.

“Outta This World” arrives on the heels of 2021’s earlier song releases “Soft,” “Spinning,” and “Like You” – all of which continue to glow with their own dazzling light and charm, so many months later. On her new track, GRAE dives headfirst into love’s warm embrace, soaking in the sunshine and relishing in her emotional euphoria. She’s enamored, and she knows it – and she wants the world to know it, too. Rising to a moment of ecstasy in the song’s chorus, she marvel’s at love’s out-of-body, out-of-this-world quality:

You’re down to earth, but not this one
Tell me more about you, where’d you come from?
The universe got me undone
Put you right here with me, where’d you come from?
You’re outta this world (Ooh, baby)
You’re outta this world, baby
You’re outta this world (Ooh, baby)
You’re outta this world (Baby, yeah)

“I wrote ‘Outta This World’ when I was at the very beginning stages of getting to know someone,” GRAE tells Atwood Magazine. “I fell hard into infatuation with this person and really wanted to make them mine. Excited over the chase, I spent many days in daydreams and couldn’t get them out of my head. I think the song represents those initial moments of lust and excitement when coming across someone you think is super cool. It’s a feel-good, doesn’t-takes-itself-too-seriously, tune about fascination and lust. It was a fun light hearted track to write and I’m excited for people to hear it!”

Inspired by the 00s dirty pleasure track ‘How Bizarre’, ‘Outta This World’ is a dorky song about the spark you get when meeting someone new.

Normally I like my space
Don’t like to chase, but I like your face
Look what you started
You’rе hotter than the sun
We could havе some fun, so stick around
Keep me in your orbit (Yeah)
You’re down to earth, but not this one
Tell me more about you, where’d you come from?
The universe got me undone (Got me undone)
Put you right here with me, where’d you come from?

For all those whirlwind high and low emotions it throws us through, love makes our daily lives feel as though they’re torn from the pages of a fairytale. Each and every passing second, whether spent grounded or lost in a daydream, take on a magical hue – so why not celebrate those feelings with their very own soundtrack? “Outta This World” revels in that good time: It’s an unapologetic alt-pop explosion of love, and we wouldn’t have GRAE any other way.
