over the mountains
and over the sea
I’m chasing a circle
set me free
asking for nothing
where should I be?
chasing a circle
set me free…

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Chasing Circles,” the well-rounded sophomore single from Sweden’s lodet. The musical moniker for singer/songwriter Joakim Bjornberg – who previously spent many years writing for J-Pop artists – lodet debuted earlier this year as the artist’s first time at the healm. May’s introduction “Calling” is a fervent, uptempo brush of indie pop with a little funk and psychedelia for good measure: An intoxicating dance tune, it showcases lodet’s talented golden vocals as well as his ear for a seductive melodies.

Taken off lodet’s upcoming debut EP Many Days (out December 11, 2020 via Allen Road Music), “Chasing Circles” elevates the new artist to even greater heights, soaring with catchy harmonies and a full band energy that calls to mind The Rolling Stones and more: From the buoyant energy of The Beatles to the harmonies of Todd Rundgren and the soulful outpourings of the late George Michael,  “Chasing Circles” recalls any number of musical greats in its humble four-minute run. Rising and falling organically, the song reveals lodet’s raw talents as a songwriter.

“‘Chasing Circles’ is about forever searching for a place where to feel at ease,” lodet tells Atwood Magazine. “Every task in life is a circle. Circles are what give me fuel to keep doing better and do more – to progress as a human and an artist. Each circle is different. The circle can’t break but it can shrink which it has since I wrote this. However it can also expand if that is what puts us at peace. The chase continues…”

Circles are what give me fuel to keep doing better and do more – to progress as a human and an artist.

lodet has established himself as an artist to watch for the foreseeable future with this new single. “Chasing Circles” moves with confidence and patience; the artist carefully blends sweet guitar licks over enchanting vocal harmonies. The result is a remarkable track that feels as at home in a collection of rock songs from the ’70s, as it does in a more context. If that doesn’t make something timeless, then what does?

lodet’s debut EP Many Days is out December 11, 2020 via Allen Road Music. Stream “Chasing Circles” exclusively on Atwood Magazine!
