Every once in a while, you hear a song and you know it’s going to stick. As soon as it ends, you immediately hit reply. That’s what MisterWives latest single, “SUPERBLOOM,” is and if summer were a real thing in 2020, song of the summer for this one is not out of the question. Just as there is a feeling of levitation when hitting “Rock Bottom,” there is a feeling of immense celebration when you reach the other side that rock bottom makes you see – “SUPERBLOOM” celebrates the other side.

Starting with an incredibly delightful undertone of nineties pop/hip-hop that carries throughout the track; bright piano chords, MisterWives’ signature horns and Lee’s airy Ooh’s and Aah’s get us ready for the drop of the first verse that immediately draws the corners of your mouth up to your ears,

Resilient little thing
Just like momma made you
No one needs to save you
Nah nah nah nah nah nah
Wallflower in the spring
They can’t contain you
Through the cracks you break through
Nah nah nah nah nah nah

The groove sets in with the pre-chorus as Lee’s vocals effortlessly dance between instruments leading us to the chorus,

I deserve congratulations
Cause I came out the other side
I’ve been having revelations
And I’m gonna let them shine
I deserve congratulations
I never thought that I’d survive
If you tell me I won’t make it
That’s when I, that’s when I

The chorus takes hold and feels just as the words suggest, a slow bloom, allowing us to feel it with every harmony Lee has delicately layered in,

Superbloom, superbloom
Superbloom, superbloom

With the ninety’s undertone, intricate bass licks and layers upon layers of precisely placed, perfectly tuned harmonies, this song feels like the celebration it is. The bridge strips it down to Lee’s vocals and the piano, a peaceful moment for us to take in the lyrics and appreciate the explosion of the final chorus,

It never rained in the desert til I
Picked me for the very first time
It’s darkest before the sunrise
That’s when I

A shaking tambourine paired with twinkling keys appropriately brings us into the final chorus,

Superbloom, superbloom
Superbloom, superbloom

“SUPERBLOOM” is the title track off of MisterWives’ upcoming 19-track album. We’ve seen through EP mini bloom, single “Rock Bottom,” and now “SUPERBLOOM” that the band has evolved while keeping the intangibles that have made them who they are. We cannot wait to dive into the album. Listen to this song, inevitably hit repeat – your whole day will get better.
