You’ll always be my favorite song

Love is complicated and dynamic, a forever-in motion emotion that never ceases to surprise or amaze. We’ve certainly seen our fair share of love songs here on Atwood Magazine – after all, everyone has to try their hand at love – but for all the roundabout ways artists go about expressing romance, being direct still feels like the best route. Telling someone exactly how you feel never gets old, and that is what makes Trü’s “Kirsti” truly stand out: It’s simple, honest, and it comes from the heart. Call it what you will, but “Kirsti” is so much more than a silly love song.

Kirsti you’re the one
And I know you claimed
You wished your name was Allison
But I was hoping
You’d let me prove you wrong
you’ll always be my favorite song

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Kirsti,” the lead single off Trü’s upcoming self-titled debut EP (out June 9th via Destroy All Monsters Records). Consisting of Pat Defrancisci (guitar/vox), Keith Williams (guitar/vox), Cindy Ward (bass/vox) and Steve Cerri (drums), Trü sound and feel like the modern-day baby of Weezer and Wavves, Dawes and Muse. Channeling what the band themselves describe as “sad music for sad people,” the Montclair, New Jersey quartet effortlessly embed what might once have been described as a “pop punk” restlessness and relentlessness into melodically vibrant, guitar-driven pop/rock music.

Cause you’re sweet and tender underneath
You’re the only one for me

One listen to “Kirsti” says it all: Trü craft a rich, multicolored tapestry of texture and timbre, held together by deep emotional underpinnings. “‘Kirsti’ is a song about being in love and all the mushy sentiment that comes with it,” the band shares. “The feeling of wanting to be totally engulfed with someone else.”

It’s easy to fall under Trü’s spell: In proclaiming their love for Kirsti, they enchant us as well through their spirited energy and impassioned lyricism. “Kirsti” is infectious, timeless and bold – the musical equivalent of throwing rocks at your crush’s second-story window. Get wrapped up in Trü romance through our exclusive premiere, and get the full dose this weekend with the release of debut EP Trü.

Locals can catch Trü at their EP release show this Saturday, 6/10/2017, at the Sharkey’s Campus Inn on 498 North Ave, Union, New Jersey!
